I bought my 2006 4.0 double cab 4x4 Tacoma about 3 years ago and have never doubted my purchase. I absolutely LOVE my Tacoma. I haven't really had any issues until recently it turns over but won't start. NOT FUEL RELATED. I had a new key made and the ecm was reset and it worked good for a couple weeks, then same thing. I was told by one mechanic that he suspected the computer of "going bad" and thinks it will have to be replaced. I personally disagree with that, but I am no mechanic. Anybody have any input? Almost certain it's security related ( immobilizer, etc..)

Any loss of power or ground without key in ignition will default to immobilizer when power or ground are restored.
Did you disconnect battery without key in ignition.

I had a similar issue with my 09.(this started @125k miles) Once or twice a year the truck would turn over, but not start. If I waited a few min, it eventually would start while coughing a few puffs of very rich exhaust along with the smell of the rich mix.

-Replaced the MAF, that didnt help.

-Used my second key . That helped at first, but in a month or so it began the same behavior.

-Replaced my 3.5 year old battery (under the hood) . Surprisingly, after the new battery, it hasn’t happened. The older battery tested fine, worked fine, never had any issues. So Im dumbfounded, but for some reason that seemed to have solved the problem. For now…

Probably. It's in the shop now. I'll pass that along to the mechanic. Thanks
