Hello all, new here as well as to exhaust systems. I just purchased my 06 Tacoma Off Road and it currently has JBA Longtube headers, AFE Y pipe, and a 3 inch cat back vibrant res flow master 44 muf. Not sure what it all means on the exhaust side of it. I'm needing to tone it down, it is way to loud driving around for me to deal with. Would I be able to keep my headers if I were to just put a stock exhaust back on it? I like the from what I feel power of the headers but I'm willing to sacrifice all of it if I have to, to quiet it down. I have the stock headers and Y pipe but not the exhaust. Please let me know and input you may have, thank you !!

That Flowmaster 44 is pretty open in terms of flow- you could get a quieter muffler to tone it down a bunch.
Problem is having long tube headers, you've got no cats which dramatically increases exhaust volume. Explains why the Vibrant resonator was added.

I'd look for a more modest (quieter) muffler, in my opinion. Don't sacrifice the headers- you need every ounce of power you have now lol.

Yup. Time to change your Muff
If you can get something in “stock”form it will still rumble nice but more quiet

Chambered muffler. Not a straight through. As long as will fit, and you'll be much happier.

I've had really good luck with past vehicles using the Moroso 'Spiral Flow' mufflers. Works better than you'd think, and as small as a resonator/glasspack. Advertised as a 5-7db reduction, though I measured a 10db reduction on the last car I used one on (which was a 3" turbo-back setup with no cat or other muffler). YMMV.

Pretty much anything will be quieter than a Flowmaster super 44 series. :anonymous:
