no seats so no need to have it. my thought is to pull out the top/ retractor all the way and razor off the belt. then unbolt the bottom.

    Yeah
If you'll ever sell/trade the truck into a dealer don't rasor the belts off!

Thats one of the couple things that equals instant price deduction when trading in. They'll overlook paint dings and woren interior, they won't overlook missing seat belts... It's not something a $10/hr tech can fix with a little elbow grease and shop supplies, that's big money part replacement.
They can't do anything with it, can't even send it to auction till they replace it so they'll definitely dock you some trade in value. If at all possible unbolt the retractor!

If you've ever watched them do an appraisal on a less-than-pristine vehicle they don't go over it with a fine-tooth comb, they get in it to make sure the odometer is reading and they make sure the seatbelts are intact, that's literally all they look at. It's one of the few parts that a non servicing dealer still has to fix before they can sell legally so they're definitely going to make a big deal about a seatbelt being cut off.

i'm thinking that would be a better way. trying to figure out how to remove the covering panel now to access the retractor. thanks for the nudge in the right direction!

I removed the seat bottoms and the headrests but left the belts. On the off chance someone needs to sit back there, they can sit on a pillow or a cushion and still buckle up.

i have a set of plastic pry tools so i popped off the door sill and began my journey upward.

as i looked up i saw an embossed "SR AIRBAG" on the piece which was next slated for removal.

stopped cold and have decided i can find another fool's errand easy enough!
