Car-quest sells the toyota coolant around here for about half as much as toyota does.

Just checked out Carquest and they have it for about $28 by me, but good to know. It looks like they are also cheapest on coolant for my honda. Thanks for suggesting!

Ye gods...I truly miss the days of just about everything using the same coolant! :annoyed:

Having said that...I watched a fleet of livery cars wind up gigantic miles (400K+). They got nothing but whatever "universal" coolant was available the cheapest by the drum! I drove a Town Car that had over 580,000 miles and the original radiator...the original water pump went over 250K, the replacement also went over 250K. (AFAIK, the car was only on its second WP when scrapped with 640,000 miles.)

^^^This is where I got my last coolant from. Buy the Toyota coolant for less here.

There are so many different coolants on the market these days that it's not worth taking the chance of getting the wrong one for your engine. You can head over to the "Bob Is The Oil Guy" forum and find out all about them. There's "HOAT", "OAT", Silicate, low silicate. I believe my 2004 requires "Hoat" which will ruin other engines. It's mind boggling.

I won't take the chance and just fork over the money for the Toyota stuff when the time comes unless I'm am absolutely, positively sure that whatever aftermarket brand I buy will actually replace the factory stuff and as we have all probably heard with the problems general Motors had with their coolants years ago there are times when you just can't trust what even the freakin' factory says.

I will say though that the Japs are a little more on the ball and we can thank the EPA for the confusion.

O'Reilly carries a HOAT chemistry formula from the Zerex brand for $14.99+CaTax=$16.23 OTD

Seems to be the same pink stuff that Toyota sells.
