That one doesn't seem like it'll work for the 3rd gen. But agreed.

I put a fumoto on my wife's car and am about to put one on the tacoma. I have a vacuum fluid extractor so I turn the air on, put the hose on the drain valve and turn the lever. When it's done, shut the valve and vacuum whats left and that's it. No drain pans, no splashing, oil being hot AF is a benefit instead of a burn, etc. I did put the secondary locking clip on hers. As for people that really give it hell offroad, maybe a plug is better due to mud or impacts but that's an extreme minority of who's on here. I have other toys for that kinda stuff.

    IMO

    1. Waste and if was ripped off would cause problems. The skid plate isn't 100%. If taking a wrench under the truck is too much work, should that person really be doing their own maintenance?

    2. Don't know what this is. If it drops the filter housing lower, I'd pass because it would increase risk to damage.

    3. I don't think it's much harder to deal with the stock housing. Plus, it's easier to inspect the filter media. Plus it's less waste.

I’ve used the Fumoto valve on all my vehicles for 10 years now with absolutely NO ISSUES. When my Taco reached 1k miles I changed the oil and installed the Fumoto.

No tools to drain. Drain directly into a jug- no cleaning an oil catch pan. No replacing crush washer. No dropping drain plug into the oil catch pan. No cross threading plug back into pan. No oil draining down my forearm. No potential leaks from removing and reinstalling the plug for over 60 oil changes.

I just installed the Baxter Relocation kit this weekend. As someone who LOVES changing my oil having the spin on filter up next to the passenger headlight will be awesome. The filter element wasn’t a difficult thing to change but if there’s a better way- I’ll take it.

I am pretty fanatical about oil in all my vehicles. I have a bypass filter bench setup that permits me to cycle my oil through the 2 micron filter. I easily drain my oil from each vehicle once per month, cycle it through the bypass filter for 10 minutes and put it back into my engine. I drain the oil into a polycarbonate 2 gallon jug with a spigot to drain it back into the vehicle. I do this each month on 3 vehicles because the setup is SO EASY- even for this 60 year old guy.

The height of the jug I use, shown below, sits just below the skid plate with about 1/2” clearance. This permits we to not even to have to use the short tube that I would connect to the Fumoto. Because of the close clearance I don’t run the risk of the wind blowing the oil stream and missing the jug. The hole diameter at the top is about 3”. I purchased the 2.5 gallon jug from Walmart for about $7.

I am posting not to convince those of you who like doing it your way but rather to help those who might be interested in a different approach.

It's not difficult at all to change and maintain your oil the way Toyota built it to be done.
I think some just like to change things for the sake of change.

You might be correct Kevin but I have the filter located up top with my Subaru’s so only a Fumoto is required. My Subaru’s were the vehicles that showed me how great that setup really is.

Subaru provides an extremely easy access to the oil filter…. On some of their newer models.

My best friend’s brother in law’s co worker’s nephew’s son ripped off a fumoto valve even though he had full skids.

Or something like that. Anyway, because of an improbable situation that I have no personal knowledge of I am strongly against fumoto valves.

Meh. I still irrationally distrust fumotos based solely on fifth hand chatter and forum mythos.

And thanks to that I'm also convinced the 3rd gen is a lemon.

Don’t want to sound like a dick here, but why? :notsure:

I mean with the cartridge, it takes literally like extra 10 mins to do an oil change every 3-6 months or so.

When you are down there changing the oil, it gives you time to inspect the undercarriage and the bottom of the engine, win win IMO.

If l can locate a fumoto valve that would fit my generator l will buy it as changing the oil in it is a pain in the ass.

I never use the plastic cap in the filter house, rather I just unscrew the filter like a canister filter and dump any oil straight into my designated oil container.
