My allocation was approved on 7/22. Here’s the reply from the salesman after I emailed him today:

“We have requested your Tacoma but Toyota hasnt fullfilled the order yet.It looks like its going to be a 2022 model at this point.”

So I guess maybe I should start a similar thread for “How long did you have to wait for your 2022 order?” Lol

I got an email today indicating they had put mine on a train car.
Delivery date is still pretty vague. Probably first week of September.

That thread already exists haha. I was hanging out in there too when I thought my truck was going to be a 22. I think it’s already a few pages long.

I started this circuitous journey months ago, starting with a configuration I built on toyota.com. "That's super rare, we'll never get it." I eventually decided I wanted a TRD pro MT, which of course is, "Super rare." Eventually x2, he put in for one but said it would be a 2022. Two weeks ago, he said they found one for me in Texas (I live in Oregon) and that I shouldn't wait on a '22 because everything is delayed until AT LEAST the end of October, across the nation and for all '22 builds. They texted me a pic of the spec sheet that looks like what you'd see on their website. It had a vin #, which I looked up (see attached picture). Again, that was 2 weeks ago *crickets* Think I'll ever see the truck??

It's funny how everyone thinks their truck build is "rare" or "super rare" (myself included). Toyota has a finite number of configurations that is only slightly increased by paint colors.

Well that build date is this week. So if it is in fact being built this week you won’t know anything until it’s out of production and gets a permanent VIN number.

My temp VIN has a build date of this week as well but the dealer pulled it up the other day and it said production should start the 19th of this month. So it’s either this week or next for them to start. It is A425 but then again yours says Mexico and my temp VIN says Texas. Both are Pros

Haha...dude, I'm a special boy, my mom says so!

No, I get it, and see it as a sales tactic at best. They need to get rid of the "build and price" feature because it's a total lie.

School me: Did you figure out the build date based on the VIN? Also, should I be concerned that it's being built in MX vs TX or is it same, same?

I’m pretty sure they are all built in Mexico now. Not sure why the VINs differ for build location between the two. Usually if it starts with a 5 it is Texas and 3 is Mexico. My temp vin starts with a 5 but doesn’t mean anything until the truck is actually built.

The 32 is the 32nd week or the year. So that is the projected build week. Things get pushed back. That’s how temp VINs are projected for build week and then once built the VIN will be completely different.

Temp vin only works until it'd built. Then you'll get a 'sorry......' kick back msg. And there isn't going to be any quality or fit/finish issue regardless whether your vin starts with a 3 or a 5. Plus all 22s will be 3s...

    5/10/2021 Build date
    7/10/2021 Arrived dealer
    7/17/2021 Picked it up
7/19/2021 Departed for 30 day 7,000 mile trip towing a 4,000 camping trailer

A couple of silly questions that I am hoping other 2021 Tacoma owners will respond to.
    1. Should the tachometer and speedometer ovals illuminate any time the truck is running. In daylight, mine will only illuminate if the headlights or parking lights are on
    2. There is a small gap in the black trim on the roof above the doors. Dealer says it is normal. Looks shoddy to me

The first number in the temp VIN is the factory location (5=Texas, 3=Mexico) and the two numbers before the last letter in the temp VIN is the projected build week (3TYCZ5AN5MT32A971 = 32nd week of the year). I believe Toyota is behind on 2021 production though, probably why the factories aren't going to switch over to 2022 production until later in October.

@KnobleOne Time of day doesn't matter--all dash/center console lights are tied to the parking lights.

The rubber trim is simply covering the mounting points for the factory roof rack

I checked my truck and I have a gap too. My truck was assembled in Guanajuato, Mexico. I agree with you, does not look top quality.

Well, for what it’s worth, all my worrying and b*tching May have been for naught…. Email today saying the truck was on the production line. Temp vin stopped working and the spec link sent from dealer did as well. Guess it’s another waiting game. But, at least I have a little more faith now after what I’ve learned in this tread! Thanks

I have to tell you that I am pretty jealous of you guys that get ANY information from your salesman without strapping them in the dentist's chair! I mean, the wait is hard enough without having to almost beg for updates. Mine has a build date of today and would like to believe that if it got pushed back he would have let me know, but I doubt it. Hoping for the best. Will post IF I find out more, good luck to all who are waiting.

@17Tacos feel ya. All info I've obtained was as a result of me initiating contact. That said, looks like they're ~1-1.5 weeks behind
