The scary part about your post is that the first folks who worked on your truck needed a “next level tech” to determine how to fix a brake squeak.

This is a prime example of why they aren’t called “mechanics”. They don’t repair anything. They are just parts changers and barely that.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Good Morning all! Happy Pre-Friday Friday. Thanks for the kind words, glad to be done with that little project in August! Does make the pool and a cold beer feel good though!

Sorry about your Mom, Dave. I'll see if I can get some good Karma for you.

Jeepnik may be right - we need more @Tacoma Mike !

    Mmmmmmmm

More than likely the tech didn’t see anything so asked for a second opinion. Perfect. No one in the shop is smarter than the sum of all. So they either gave it to a more seasoned tech and or the tech suggested new drums.
Will it fix it? Poss. but, I wouldn’t bet on it. I think more needs to be done while the drums are off.

    Afternoon all:
Sorry to hear about your mom also Dave. :(

Debating if I want to start mowing, they are saying the heat index will be somewhere around 110 deg., maybe do half and go from there!
Still thinking about installing headlights on the Z-turn, don't think the neighbors will appreciate me mowing at midnight though!

Ya know... if you're shopping for a lawn mower don't cheap it out. Get the best and the biggest and the whole neighborhood will be impressed and know you are the real deal. I recommend the John Deere 9620RX. You can buy a reel or rotary attachment and hell, this puppy can even drag more than one behind it. Built to do the job and impress the entire city.

Thanks all. Palliative doc cleared mom to be moved, and was a real sweetheart on top of it. She'll be entering hospice at a skilled nursing facility because of her needs. We had visited a bunch earlier in the week, thinking we were going to be doing rehab, so we know what they're like. Seems as though she might get into "our" second choice, which is actually "my" first choice.

Brakes are as basic as it gets. If a tech isn’t able to diagnose and repair them all by himself he needs to look for a new line of work.

Yes there was a time, 50+ years ago when I didn’t know anything about brakes. But you best believe dad didn’t let me do it alone until I did know.

Turning an untrained person loose on brakes is criminal. That type of stupidity gets folks hurt.

    He he he he.
    Wow oh wow.
    Soap box time dude?
There was nothing wrong with the mechanical workings or the ability of the vehicle to stop.
    It was a squeak.
Brakes nowadays are not basic anymore not that this applies in this situation.
This guy found nothing wrong. So he asked for another opinion.
You know how many 1000’s of times I was asked for second opinion on something stupid?
You know how many 1000’s of times I asked for a second opinion on something stupid?
Things working as expected with no visible sign of issue have been repaired by replacing
a part that if you put it on another vehicle would operate without issue.

Nothing is cut and dry on ANY REPAIR.

People love to assume that if someone else looks at something the first person doesn’t know what
    He or she is doing.
I’m sure you would appreciate a Dr asking for a second opinion of his staff before he opens you up.

    Good morning everyone!!

Had some strong thunderstorms yesterday afternoon and last night - need to check around this morning to see if there was any wind damage.

Got the truck back yesterday afternoon. They ended up replacing both drums under warranty - said they were both squeaking where I thought it was only one. That seems to have fixed it. No squeaks. As it turns out, I've been contacted by 4 other owners - 3 of the 4 Pro owners who have the same issue and their dealerships have not figured out how to fix the issue. Part of the issue with trying to figure out what was causing it was that it only happened just as the truck came to a complete stop.

Cleaned out the basement of the old farmhouse on our property. Talk about finding pieces of the past found my son's old Lincoln Logs from when we lived in the house from 74-77.

    Be safe out there!!

Hope they hit on it, 6.
Squeeky drum brakes must be a thing with Tacomas. I've heard several owners and even one service writer complain about it. I've replaced both on mine, along with quality shoes. Maybe the shoes they use these days make more dust, contributing to it.. IDK. But no squeeks for several years.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porchites! Soon as I warm up with some more coffee, I'll mow. No need to wait for it to warm up outside....
Successful Putz yesterday, only did one thing wrong, and bought the "wrong" solar flood replacement. So, do I buy another wrong one so they match and are both new? Or buy the right one? These are the difficult decisions we must live with! o_O

    Have a great Friday all!

Went to the hardware store to pick up a few odds and ends and noticed a nice wheelbarrow sitting out front, took a look at it and saw that the reduced price was only $250.00! I need a new wheelbarrow, and that wheelbarrow looked pretty nice, but I don't know if I really need a $250 wheelbarrow!

My old folks two wheeler was reduced from $140 to $99 when I literally tripped on leaving Ace this spring. That reduction was worth it.

$250 for a wheelbarrow that is stamped out at a hundred an hour, on a hundred year old machine that's been paid for for 80 years, and the only human necessary is for assembly and can be done in seven minutes.
What I don't get is why we ship machine made items in from China?
I knew a guy long ago that had machines running in storage units, cranking out stamped, identical parts like washers and hinges, and he would go every other day to take the finished parts away and refill the hoppers feeding the machines. He was rich.
But we pay the Chinese to do the same thing, pay tariffs and import fees, as well as shipping costs... and we gripe because a hinge that once cost $1.19 is now $7.99.
How the hell does THAT work?

You get what you pay for. I have an American made wheelbarrow with never flat tires, a huge tub that is really thick and a 10 year warranty. Best damn wheelbarrow I ever had. Cost me around $300 ish if I remember correctly. But for the life of me right now I can't remember the name of it, lol.
No problem humping cement up my driveway with it.

Notice the bracing on the outboard axle ends.
Edit: it's a scenic road brand and it's rated at 800 lbs. More than I want to push at my age.
