I think if i paid nearly $50k for a mid size truck i'd have someone commit me for electric shock treatments.

I’m calling bullshit unless you provide proof.

You claim your dealer bought your SR5 back on trade-in for what you paid, AND knocked ~12% off MSRP on the new truck.

    Uh, no. No they didn’t.

But feel free to take a pic of your contract and post it here.

Here you go... I don't have paperwork on the original price I paid for the SR5. I feel like it was around $32-34k. I got $32k on trade-in. (If I said something in a different thread, it was memory. I'm staring at the paper now.)

New truck was $40,507. Off-road. Tech package with BSM and that jazz. Mudflaps. Auto-dimming mirror. Door edge protectors. (I'm listing the stupid crap that costs more).

    image0.jpg IMG_0805.jpg

Again... it was listed for $45,000+ on their website. This one is spec'd identically. https://www.spitzertoyota.com/vehic...dohc-24v-lev3-ulev70-278hp-3tmdz5bn3mm117801/

I realized after I edited out the VIN that its technically not sensitive information.

It’s really hard to discern from your pics. If everything you say is true, thats a great deal and your dealer is literally throwing away money. Congrats.

Yea sorry man. I don't have a line item that says "discount". I can give you the VIN or more pictures. But that price is definitely the price.

They advertise as selling at invoice. I thought they just showed an artificially inflated MSRP to make you think the invoice price is real good. Apparently it's because they get benefits from selling high volumes from Toyota.

Again... I know nothing about car selling. These are the lines that were thrown at me while I was there.

Demand > Supply or Supply > Demand. Unless you do mean to say that the supply is greater than the demand. :)

The only way for me to know is to see the window sticker for each truck, see what you paid for each, trade allowance, all fees, taxes, your finance rate, etc. You provided a cropped pic of one number out of many others that make up a deal.

If the dealer is discounting Tacomas more than 10% in the current market, they are a unicorn.

Did they have it actually sitting on the lot so that the sale would count for that month? Was it at the very end of the month? Maybe they needed one more sale to hit a monthly or quarterly sales goal…?
    Otherwise inexplicable in these times

I went in for them to see my truck and give me a real trade-in after I talked to them after submitting a virtual trade-in. I thought they'd have nothing on the lot, but they had the one Off-road. So this is a possibility.

Yeah, very possibly the case. Making a couple thousand less on one sale to be able to get a $100,000 sales goal bonus is totally worth it. The dealer is still making plenty of money even while giving you 10% off. 12% off is fairly common in normal times. I was offered over 15% off in April 2020. Add in the money that they are going to make off your trade and they are good to go.
    Congrats!

Thats very similar to what you'd pay here for that trim and package. Msrp would be around $42,500.

Supply and demand. New Tacomas are flying off the lots so fast that unless you find a dealership that accepts a down payment to hold one in transit….you ain’t getting one!

I had to drive 130 miles to find a new 2021 OR that had lasted on the lot more than a day. Prior to that I actually had a dealer call me who had taken down my name earlier to say “one just came in today, do u want me to set aside the keys?” Me: “yes, omw”. Him, 5 minutes later: “I’m so sorry it’s sold already and I didn’t realize it”

I paid 3k over MSRP in June 2021 and took it like a good little boy…

I must be lucky. Drove 10 miles away and got one same day. My dealership routinely has 5-7 on the lot. Around where I live (Pittsburgh) this shortage isn't that severe.

    None....yet..
On a whim, I stopped by a local stealership just to look (maybe buy). Mine was marked up with blackout & tech package and whatever else they slapped on it, to $42,930. THEN a separate window sticker next to it with a mark up of $8K and was labeled "Market Rate Adjustment". The salesman walked over to me while I was looking and I asked what bullcrap that was. His reply; "Look around, we can't keep these on the lot." He was right, there were only 4 and a bunch of empty spaces: 2 lonely SR5s, mine, and a Tundra TRD Pro. I didn't like cement, but, its growing on me.

Anyway, I traded my Durango, negotiated & bought the stupid windshield and tire insurance and was out the door at $30K even. Their stupid market rate adjustment is just a bargaining tool for people who have trades that are worth good money and those who have a bunch of money to put down. I should have sold my Durango and just waited until all this foolishness is over. Very reminiscent of the housing market fiasco....But, I am a happy camper with my Taco.

I live in Ont and the price of Tacomas as not gone up that much I think he is bullshitting you man. My 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport cost me 38,300 + 7500 for Premium package=45,800 and I just looked at the Toyota website and they have gone up maybe 1000 at the most.

I was offered 42k (wholesale price) to walk away from my Pro. KBB lists sale at 48k and trade at 45k as of a few days ago. I'd be happy to toss someone the keys for 45k. It'll be listed for sale in early September as I'm trying to finish up my land cruiser so I can daily drive it for a few months before replacing the Taco. My hope is the shortage corrects itself and then after 6ish months or so there will be plenty of deals around. It's a gamble but I'm going to pull the lever and see if I can hit 7s...lol

over $35k for a truck to me is crazy, but to each their own. My $26k Taco has a 6' bed, all I want and need in a truck.
