I decided to finally get around to installing a backup camera on my truck. I'm running a Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS head unit, so it'll take the camera feed with no problems. I picked up this camera off Amazon and mounted it to an OEM camera ready tailgate handle.

My problem is the cabling included only has the power/ground wires to power the camera on the rear portion by the quick disconnect. They intend you to connect it to the reverse lamp wiring in the tail light. The other end only has the yellow RCA plug and a power cable to connect to the head unit so it knows when the truck is in reverse. I tapped into the reverse bulb power and ground off my driver side tail light using scotchlok connectors. I don't think power is getting to the camera. I'm getting nothing on the head unit. I would prefer to connect it the recommended way, via the power wire and ground under the driver side kick panel. Has anyone gotten it to work off the rear tail lights or do I have to run wires from the rear to the front kick panel? Any advice?

How did this turn out? I just bought a locking tailgate handle with camera from tailgatecamera.com.
