Excellent! They told me the same 10 years before next one, so all must have checked out good up inside there..

Good morning crew! It's Friday. I sure would like to see @BananaMan get that lathe tuned up. I forgot to even ask him if he's ever ran one before. ?? Be fun to see him get started.
From what I'm hearing we ( employer) didn't get any experienced candidates for machinists. 2 candidates with some CNC operator experience

Yeah I'm glad it's done and everything checked out. Yawl were right, the prep was the worse part.

    Have a great Friday friends!

Yeah I knew what you meant by starter and thermal, a mag starter with heaters. This unit could be old enough to have gnomes inside with little hammers to start the motor.

For a Friday the 13th, things are going a bit too well.

Email from the boss that he's out today.
The new guy in the building brought in donuts.
I'm leaving at 2:00 for an appointment.

Edit: I didn't even finish typing the above and I got a phone call that the new monitor I installed a few days ago for someone is glitching. The curse is starting...

I have not in fact ran one before. I've watched lots of videos about it (AVE and This Old Tony) and we don't have any machinists at all here. So I figured somebody has to step up and make parts/fix stuff, might as well be the lead millwright. I found the problem I think, one of the legs to the motor came loose and was just hanging in midair. Shut off the breaker and was going to fix it, but the Friday curse hit us as well. Non-stop problems and breakdowns. Burnt up a servo motor, our debarker oil pump ran empty and lost prime, jammed up the edger setworks cylinder, and a motor mount broke free and had to be welded back in place. Taking my break then back to the grind.

Big thank you to @RustyGreen for the comment about the controls not using 480 and having a different power supply (they do) which led me to dig deeper and find the motor issue.

    I call this "the fuckening."

The days going too good and you start to get a little suspicious. Then all Hell breaks loose and you go "ah, there's the fuckening"

I have a strange feeling today is gonna be a shit show when I go in as well. Yesterday was a shit show so it would be par for the course...

I've come across End of Watch but never seen it.

The monitor looks like it just needed a driver update. Pushing the Displayport cable in a bit more may have helped, too.

I thought it was a pretty good movie. Forgot what movie deal you had the other day, but End of Watch is on hulu now.
Think I may have recorded it on a free movie channels weekend or something.

Running a lathe can be scary if you've never done it, they are dangerous. But you're a smart man and been around stuff long enough you won't have any trouble at all. If you have any questions fire away, plenty of help in here. I ran a manual lathe for years here before going to the CNC mill, I like running the mill better cause the cycle times are usually longer and I don't have to stand there with it. I still use the lathe on occasion in manual mode, just don't know how to program it to make it do tricks. The lathe I ran for years was an old Tiding lathe and it was all manual.

Lately our Fridays around here have been fairly slow. I'm putsing around in the shop and going to make a DRO map for 10 plates I need to fabricate. Several holes, some drill and tap in each one. Another little irritation for toe, and I've coached even experienced guys to keep dial calipers off the mill table when machining, same with lathe. Get a chip in there and skip a gear.20210813_115458.jpg 20210813_115836.jpg 20210813_120545.jpg

Glad you found the problem, hopefully you can get 30 minutes all in a row to fix it now.
I remember those days well, don't miss it at all.:)
