Let's See Your Cats!!!

After 10 days of meds for her skin infection, Gracie had a follow-up vet appointment yesterday. The skin issue seems to have resolved, though she is still a little sensitive to being touched there. We are hoping that this goes away with time. The poor thing apparently also had a low-grade infection in her anal glands that did not respond to the first antibiotic, so now she needs 7 days of amoxicillin while we taper her off of the gabapentin and steroid. Hopefully that will do it...fingers crossed.

Now that the acute issue has been dealt with, the vet was able to do a better overall assessment. Gracie is not a dwarf, she's just very small with short legs, so there are no concerns about the additional issues dwarfs can have. She does have early stage cataracts and very early signs of arthritis, so it appears that she's older than everyone thought. The vet is estimating her age to be about eight years. We always underestimate when the cats are tiny and cute, but the eyes, arthritis, and state of her teeth support this estimate.


Gracie also has rotational nystagmus, a rare congenital disorder that makes her eyes move back and forth slightly when she focuses on something. We noticed this early on, but it's not easy to catch unless you know it's there. The vet says it doesn't hurt anything because the cat's brain compensates, and that she can see fine. She is starting to perk up and act like a normal cat. She came home from the vet with a couple new toys, and has been playing with them no-stop. We hadn't been able to get her to play prior to this, so she must be feeling better. The boys have met her, and we have let them upstairs for TV time with no major incidents. Arthur seems to be bonding well with her, but Henry has always been aloof. She also walked around downstairs for the first time yesterday. She hadn't shown any interest in that before, so we take it as another good sign. We are going to try to transition her to full-house living over the weekend.

 

That's wall paper? I know it was sold like that, but it looks like plaster. Either way, glad that's not my task.

 

Praying that she continues to show signs of improvement. Poor thing sure had been through a lot. Hope the boys are accepting of her and don’t make things too difficult on her. Unfortunately cats aren’t know for being compassionate and usually go on the attack when they sense weakness.

Our place didn't come stock with insulation or central air & heating. So when it gets super hot we buy a few 10lb bags of ice and throw it in the bathtub for zero. She acts like she's playing in the snow lol. She'll be in there till the last ice cube has melted.

Our basement had nasty green color wood paneling in the basement, half we covered with textured wallpaper the other half got sheetrock. In a couple pictures posted of cats you may have seen where the cats decided to scratch on it before going up the stairs. I'm pretty sure we have extra to redo it but way low on priorities.

 

After losing our last cat back in March, my wife decided it was time for a new one.

May I present to you, Carpenter. Just adopted him at 4 mos. old a couple weeks ago.

 

My AC and electric bill have been on the rise the last couple days. The cats have no idea it’s feeling like 107° outside.
