Is there a Basic 2nd Gen Tacoma w an Access Door?

Been searching youtube, the web, etc. and I guess my info harvesting isn't as good as I thought

At 79, in excellent health, I am going from my 1973 Dodge B100 van of 37 years to a Taco. I am looking for it to be similar to my van with no electric stuff. I can roll my windows, adjust my mirror, don't need a seat warmer, etc.

So if one of you kind folks knows of this combination I would appreciate your help.

A 2.7, steel wheel, access door, etc. is perfect for me. I don't off road.

2005-2015) 5 lug access cab. RWD only. Even my basic 14 had electric windows, though. Caution: they aren't cheap these days. Everybody on Craigslist thinks their vehicle is solid freakin gold and priced accordingly.

 

That's probably just CA which has probably always been that way to some extent with 2wd tacos

Thanks a lot. The Basic models I've seen on youtube vids all had roll up windows. But even so, that would be a small compromise if the combo was available. Yeah, everyone wants to be a millionaire on all the seller lists :-/

 

A dealer might be cheaper.

Mine has a 'convenience package' so PW, PL with fob (not smart key, not required to use if you dont wish), cruise, rear sliding window. They are available w/o that package, usually retired pool and meter reader trucks.

But I dont consider those package items 'gee whizz' stuff. All decades proven and reliable.

My '13 has 36k on it if you want to throw me stupid money.

 

Not trying to be smart but the top of the line Tacoma is pretty basic compared to other trucks. When you get down to base models they're just economy trucks with a premium price tag. IMO

 

I was like you in many ways.
I had a pretty basic Ford Ranger for 19 years.
No power windows or mirrors or door locks or seats. An AM/FM cassette radio.
I thought that was all I needed and looked down on the power stuff as unnecessary
Then I got a Tacoma.
I got used to the power windows, door locks, cruise control, etc. quickly.
You'll be hard pressed to find one stripped down and may grow to like the convenience as I have.

 

My '06 PreRunner is about as basic as you can get. No power windows, no cruise, no fog lights etc...I do have the 4.0 L engine. Keep looking and maybe you will stumble on to one.

Highlander 16" wheels?

 

OK, I admit to being confused: What’s an “Access Door” ? Is it a Large entry door? My Reg cab is very basic, but I thought all the doors were the same size.

 

The two pics above show the "Access Cab" variety. Basically, it's half way between a regular cab and a 4 door. It's possible to cram skinny flexible adults into the back seats for short trips, but it's probably more useful as being a bit of dry/protected space that's not in the bed.

 

I have a base model access cab 6 lug. They are out there, but not as common as a lot of the other iterations. I was looking for 4x4, manual trans, and as simple as I could get in the Taco. The dealer had one - I got lucky. It's nearly 10 years old now. The clutch is showing signs of wear, the throw out bearing is starting to make a little noise, and it has a bit of surface rust everywhere. Still, I couldn't be much happier with my truck.

 

I like this description of an access cab. Unfortunate for me all my friends are fat and non flexible. That is with the exception of my brothers bony wife, who complains too much already so I wouldn't want to put her behind me in my fart cloud area.

 

When I first got mine, I removed the seat and built a tool storage area back there that doubled as a platform for my dog to hang out on. I did put one of the seats back in, but most of that area is still taken up by the storage box.

My favorite part about the access doors is that they are "suicide" doors, allowing a large opening through which to access the cab.

 

For info, what I found when researching and searching for a tacoma is the regular cab was last made in 14, I think that's right. Every article and review I found said to get a v6 manual. When I was shopping 2 years ago, it took 7 months to get one. I'd find one, ok let me think about it, in a day or two it's gone. I came close to buying new, glad I didn't get a 3rd gen.

I also found nobody makes a good small truck anymore. The makers realized there's more money to be made going after the family market instead of the industrial market. Although not perfect, the tacoma is the best choice from a group of nothing but bad choices. I think the biggest issue is rusting frames on the tacomas. If it lived any of it's life in the rust belt, it'll be worse. When you inspect or have a mechanic inspect a prospective new to you tacoma, make sure that's looked at.

I wanted the access instead of double cab, which makes the search tricky. The search engines only have regular cab and extended cab, you use the access cab as key words, it still brings up double cabs, which is frustrating to have to look at every one. Even the trans type, you chose manual, it still brings up autos. Heck, try to find a turbo car, it'll bring up cars with turbo seats, turbo visors, turbo wheels, turbo sunglass holder, turbo door handles, turbo shift knob.

 

Yep, here's mine. Base 08, 2.7, 5-spd, 4x4 with power nuthin'....
