CAT Scale Result. 1st timer.

Attached is my scale result from earlier today. 2017 4x4 OR with tow package. 22’ trailer 3800 dry and 6800 max. Stock (at the moment, stuck in back order hell).

If I understand correctly I need to shift weight from the truck to the trailer. Quite a bit.

 

A general rule of thumb is to have 10-15% of your trailer weight on the ball of your truck (tongue weight)

 

nice setup, you had the trailer hooked up while on the scale?

 

ONLY 2 axles weighed & U have 4 axles ??????

 

I tried twice to get the two truck axels weight separately with the trailer but even though I had them on the marked three scales, I could only get the trailer and the truck.

The first number is the truck, second the trailer.

@T8tjt: Kinda tough to get individual axle weights for a Taco + trailer on a scale designed for tractor trailers. You may have to figure out how to get just one axle on the Taco onto the scale's platform, most likely just the front axle. Knowing that, and what you already know you should be able to figure out the rear axle weight.

 

If that first weight is just the Tacoma plus tongue weight you need to move stuff out of the truck and further back in the trailer. That's showing you're 700lbs over GVWR with what looks to be a pretty stock truck.

 

Yep it is and that’s what I figured. So since the tongue weight is approx 10-12%, or 450-500ish, I need to move about 300lbs which I think I can come close with the generators, extra water and additional junk my wife insists on.

5 pads on the scale to weigh almost ANY combination

The pads are so long that getting the three “axels” on individual pads was an issue. The trailer is only 22’.

 

What is your TOTAL weight truck, trailer, people, etc?

Now look at your MAX GVWR on your drivers side door jamb I'm betting your over weight

 

cat scales would differ with U.............they are Certified State & country wide

a certified scale is required to weigh ANY road combo

UR total weight is at least 2500 to 3000lbs more

 

That was a fully loaded weight on both.

I see that what does your sticker on the door jamb say your max GVWR is?

 

Ok. Sooooo, we’re overweight truck wise. I get it. I was more worried about tow weight but now I understand better.

I figure with the current config of stuff, wife, dogs etc that I can move 250lbs back to the trailer. It’ll get it closer but I suspect it’ll still be a bit over weight.

My plan all along has been to get a dedicated (LARGER) tow vehicle upon retirement when we can travel more than two or three times a year, and, longer distances; keeping the taco as my toy/daily truck. Will have to wait now till these ridiculous used truck prices settle down.

This being said, the truck is bone stock with 25K miles and I have the following on order for this truck and some is still on back order due to supply chain mess, especially the gears where I can’t get a straight answer. I assume the following will help in the short run correct?

On order is:
Bilstein 6112 and 5160
Front locker
Nitro 5.29
Cooper 33” pizza cutters
RXT leaf pack

and…..a Magneson.

You forgot brakes they kinda come I'm handy occasionally, trans cooler, radiator, you get the idea

Now for the rest of you guys & your overland shit you better hit the scales also.

I garrantee most of you are over weight also
