You know, rather ironically, I made the call to say f it and do 4 full size relays before I thought there would be any OOS trouble with them. And now I have dozens of micro relays but can’t seem to source the big boy size. Rather amusing.

I’m not super interested in attempting to change to tanged though so I think I’m sticking with these.

Yeah I eye spied that before. Kinda pricey for a piece of powder coated steel. I bet @Grossomotto could do something better. But it is a consideration. @Zumozuzu7 what are your thoughts?

first I must procure relays. At the moment it looks like China for that.

Honestly it seems like a good candidate for 3d printing in petg or abs.

I'm fairly certain I couldn't make that exactly for $17 from new steel, but something very similar from scrap.

I had gotten one from Amazon about about $20 and I will say it was solid

OK,@Shadowhunter, I got started on yours.

I’m currently waiting on 12 gauge green and white as I have neither. Though I can’t help but think how much nicer it’d all be with dual output relays like the Hella (actually I think they are Bosch) relays Mike uses.

Maybe @Puppypunter can make some magic on that front for me. So far I haven’t located a skirted metripack relay with dual 87 outputs.

Otherwise I think I’m looking at a 3 way splice or 2x14 gauge with a double crimp or a second weatherproof pack just to split power for high and low beams.

    Specifically, 3 properties:

    1. Skirted (as yours is and as used in the DIR)
    2. Metripack 280 style (skinny terminals, like the DIR uses, so it’s compatible with the connectors, layout and terminals)
    3. Dual 87 output (one terminal per headlight)
The third bit is what makes them rare. I’ve only seen unsealed relays with dual 87 terminals.

Thanks, so both 87 terminals light up at the same time instead of alternating like an 87/87a.

I’m not sure I get the reason. It’s still single in, dual out. What is different than a splitter for same solution? Beyond direct run, I see no benefit that counters it’s unicorn status. There are plenty of 1/2 blade items if not self made.

Exactly, it’s a splitter. For 12 gauge outputs to each headlight that split is a relatively beefy affair. Tapping one per pin is a great option to avoid a marriage of 3x12 gauge (one in, 2 out). For small gauge wire these splices aren’t much of a big deal but the thick stuff makes distribution a bit of a pain. It really cleans up the wiring to have dual outputs.

No functional difference of course. But if not using 87A as many NO relays are used, it’s a valuable way to recycle real estate.

I got nothing for that. I would just run two wires out of it. You can squeeze 2 14g in a metripack280 pretty easily.
