Is it just me - im at 2500 km 2021 TRD sport - went on a small atv trail 5 km per hour was my speed. No incline some steering movements and now I feel like my truck has been oversteering not like it was before I did my mini off road. Should I be worried. Im brand new and come from the wrx sti world where we baby cars. Thoughts and experiences please so that I can understand that the truck just steering wheel has more movement then I’m use to and continue to build my Tacoma for off road capabilities. Shocks rim wheels and under guard. Then I’ll be off road ready.

It is possibly the terrain change that your not used to? traction on dirt and what not feels very different than the street and going back to street from dirt can make you over compensate

Maybe just never noticed how much actual rotation it takes for a turn almost one and a half on a 90 degree turn thought maybe I messed the truck up on my small rocky terrain adventure. I for sure hope the Tacoma can take more then that.

Define what you mean by oversteering. I don't think it means how your are using it.

Oversteer typically means the back tires break loose before the front.

Understeer means the front tires break loose first.

The old joke from race car driving school is with understeer you will see what you are going to hit. With oversteer you won't see what you hit.

That said, the steering box ratio in the Tacoma will likely be a lot slower than an STi. Typically this is measured in turns, lock to lock. Obviously there is an underlying gear ratio, but that isn't easy for most of us to quantify.

I love that info. So basically I’m just experiencing what It’s like to drive a truck and the understeering is normal in comparison to my previous car

You sure are. I jump back and forth between my 21 TRD Offroad DCLB and my wife's Crosstrek. I experience the same thing. It takes a few minutes of driving to realize the Subaru only takes like 1.5 rotations of the SW and the truck is like two or more.

understeer = front hits the wall 1st

oversteer = rear hits the wall 1st

rear drive vehicles are set up totally diff than front wheel drive cars /trucks

front wheel drive can but Not always actually ‘ turn in ‘ an initial phase o cornering better

typically rear wheel will out corner front wheel drive

all wheel drive typically performs in the middle ( sports car racing set ups )

I too know what you are experiencing OP. Nothing wrong, it's just different. I went from a 2009 Corvette to the Taco; very different animals! :)
