First Tacoma Purchase - Is this a good deal?

    For me the important words are that you are in the Sierra Nevadas. IMO a 4 banger is okay for flatlanders but a 4K pound vehicle with a 4 banger will struggle in the mountains. I live in Colorado, when I first moved here back in 1987 I had a GMC Jimmy, manual with a 2.8L Engine. I got rid of it after about a year because it struggled to hit 55 mph going up to the ski areas.

    I would not get a 4 cylinder truck if I planned to go to the mountains with it.
