While a file is not the first thing I reach for. I do use them a fair amount especially here lately.

And as I get older, my tolerance of risk is getting lower as it takes longer to heal. I actually found myself looking at some handles after realizing where the end of the tang was in relation to soft tender bits. Funny how when I was younger I never gave it a thought.

Having files without handles doesn’t make you more of a man, it just makes you more uncomfortable. I’ve found that a quick stick on handle gives me more finite control when doing fine grain work.

As many as I can fabricate
My camper has .125 thick aluminum doors with (10) 1"x3" holes for the latches. The filing was labor intensive because Milwaukee ain't getting into that hole...lmao

If files weren’t intended to have handles they wouldn’t have tangs.

It’s pretty hard to get a person that doesn’t use handles to admit they’ve stuck a tang into their palm. Idiots don’t like admitting they are idiots.

As a machinist, it is sometimes necessary to run a file across the top surface of a large flat piece of material. In that situation a handle would be in the way. It depends on what situation you are using the file for.
If it was necessary to always have a handle, they would probably come with handles when you buy them.
Idiots though should always use a handle...

Everyone on the internet has an opinion, very few agree, you do you

files have tangs, some just have a flat handle on the end, I carry both in my service van, have a grinder and a air buffer as well, sometimes a field fix takes what it takes, sometimes that field fix is in the garage and doesn’t end up costing $500 to “do it the right way” but it works for decades. It’s only wrong if it doesn’t work.

sometimes working and pretty aren’t synonymous.

Got my SWAG table finished tonight.

Painted with rattle cans and turn out quite nice. The stand from HF sucks but for as little as I’ll use it is fine.

This polisher did a pretty damn good job saving my trucks paint. Not bad for $89.

I bought the same one 6 months ago. It made my faded Super White paint on my 2005 look almost new again.

Major improvement! I'd recommend you apply a paint sealant of sorts to keep it protected. Jescar makes some good stuff, but almost any sealant will do.
