I have a 2016 Tacoma trd off-road. Just bought a gas cap lock last week had no problems until today driving home from work. My TRC off light and check engine light was on. Anybody know a gas lock cap that doesn’t trigger any lights on the dash at all.

I haven't seen a locking gas cap that you can't grab with pliers push down really hard on and twist off.

I would just stick to OEM no problems and effectively just as secure.

If you really feel the need to lock your cap I would drill into the door and get an all weather cabinet lock and cut a slot in the fender flare for the tang.

Or maybe just cut the head off a cabinet lock & stick it on with 3M tape. (A mock up of a locked door.) Gas thieves will look elsewhere.

In modern vehicles it is all but impossible to steal gas anyway, you can't get a hose into the tank. Put the factory cap back on it and don't worry about it.

Yes, I thought Toyota has a "screen" inserted into the neck of the tank so a hose can't be inserted.

Yes, they have something inserted in the neck of the gas cause I tried to siffon some with a hose to fill my gas mower up and could not get it in all the way.

I've got the start locking gas cap which has been fine so far...had it for 1 1/2 years now. In my case its not a matter of someone low life siphoning my gas, but dumping some nasty chit in your tank. We've had vandalism on my road every year. If they can't get into your tank...they'll move on to the next target, or in my case kick in my mailbox.

Yeah, low life fuckers have nothing else to do but vandalize other peoples properties for kicks or whatever reason they have.

I have a Stant P/N 10504 locking gas cap. Toyota Canada sells this exact part as a Toyota accessory at the dealer parts counter at twice the price, P/N C0170-00020.
A wave rake is cheaper and easier to conceal than channel locks. Hell the gas door itself with its thin wire hinge can be pried open very easily. Either solution is just a low-security deterrent against tampering.
