With all the posts on how "all lifts are bad" and lifts reducing the reliability...lets see how long you guys have driven your lifted trucks so we can see how big of a deal it is and what repairs are needed. (provided regular maintenance is done)

Lol it's TRUE lifts reduce reliability and dependability. How much depends on user. When you push something wider and higher than the engineers designed it, you will always have reduced reliability and dependability. That is fact.

People love to post their mileages on TW.

I can tell you every lifted truck eats ball joints sooner than a non-lifted truck. That said, Toyota ball joints last way longer than any other truck.

Fair enough, edited. Curious to see those with lifted trucks, what maintenance was needed that was unexpected. So far I see ball joints as one?

CV joints and wheel bearings are gonna fail sooner. Fact except how much sooner? Depends on application.

Haven't lifted the Taco, but lifted my FJCruiser. 3" lift with new UCAs. Installed around 35k. I traded it in at 95k. Zero issues, no abnormal wear noted. Also with lifts you get larger tires that put more stress on the vehicle bearings and driveline. Again, zero issues.

If you are that worried about it, keep the vehicle stock. If you want better off road performance and/or a smart looking rig, lift away brother.

About 2" front, 1" rear with 40,873 miles so far. I know if that is really considered a "lift?" I went from the 5100/887's to the 6112's with 650 pound springs about 10,000 miles ago. Same tires, Hankooks, that I put on at 25,000 ish.

Anything up to 2" in front is hardly a lift.
Plan to replace needle bearing in the front diff with the install. $hits design by toyota.

888's + billy 5100's with Icon AAL so 2"-2.5" ish installed Sept 2019 @ 7k miles and change. Needle bearing shit the bed (expected) within a couple hundred miles. Replaced it and now going on 29k with no lift issues.

I feel like this is the interesting question. I don't think anyone can conclusively argue otherwise, or even has interest in trying. The big question is 'is the harm/reduction material?' A reduction of 1000 cycles would be huge if the lifetime was 20000 cycles, not so important if it was 1mil cycles. Nobody can capture all the variables or measure and collect sufficient data so we live with general rules and antecdotes.

I trust engineers to meet specifications. I don't trust managers to align specifications with my interests. So perhaps changing geometry is a big reduction in lifespan of parts or perhaps it is statistically zero difference but the market research indicates that x height sells the best and costs less so that's why things are the way they are. So I find threads where we share anecdotes interesting.

Again absolutely no disagreement with the point that mods reduce reliability. It's a very good rule of thumb. We still have people rerouting the ac drain/drip and doing diff breather relocates without being scolded for modifying engineer work.

I've now completely jinxed myself. I have 10k miles on a 1.5" lift on kings, SPC UCAs, and icon leafs (no shims, carrier or diff drops). Only issues were self inflicted from learning to install. See you next month with a 'vibe problem and leaky CV'

Rides a little rough but tires are at 45psi
Thought about airing down to 35psi to see if they’ll ride smoother. About 10k miles after lift and the only problem I notice is a little rub when reversing up front.
