What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

So my transmission oil pan seems to be leaking. Not bad but the pan is covered with a light layer of oil everywhere. Kinda like a valve cover gasket leak, except its just oil not oil mixed with dirt like that gunk stuff.

Do I just need to replace the pan gasket?

 

I'd clean the trans and figure out exactly where it's coming from. If it's the pan use fipg.

 

A gasket is available, but my recommendation is always to use the Toyota FIPG -





Some people replace their filter; it's just a screen so I just ran brake cleaner and let it dry off.

 

Got it. I’m not very familiar with how the tran pans are sealed. So remove pan, scrape off old FIPG or remove gasket that’s in there now, reseal with new FIPG?

 

Is this the same stuff you use for the valve cover jobs? If so I have some leftover so that’s cool. I’ll get more anyways though.

 

The common saying is - if it's smooth, fipg and if it's dimpled/rigid/etc then use a gasket.

I had 250k miles give or take on my Tacoma until it started seeping. Pulled the pan and scraped off any and all gasket material from both the pan and transmission (see pic above).

Reseal with FIPG, then let it sit a day to cure before refilling transmission.

 

I cannot say; others will chime in.

I'd just buy a new tube of it and use it on your transmission pan.

Got my new Corbeau Sport seats today. Replacing my Cipher Racing seats that I had only for 2 month and had those covered with seat cover and only drove 3 times in them. Enough to know they had to be replaced.
So Cipher will up for sale with in a week. Waiting for my Corbeau sliders

What didn't you like about the Cipher ones?

 

It's the red stuff. I've seen people use the interchangeably, but the fsm calls for red. I'm sure whatever permatex equivalent would be fine, but the Toyota stuff isn't much more and it's a pain to re seal stuff.

They were great. But my knee injury causes me to angle my leg certain way. With bolsters it is not possible. So seats look great in the tacoma. (Checkout my media library) But need something with less bolstering at the hips

 

I feel your pain on seats, I’m now looking at Recaros after having Subaru Crosstrek seats for 3 years (too tall), now have Procar Touring (feel cheep, not enough thigh support)

 

Installed a Badlands 12k winch a few weeks ago I got from Harbor Freight for $480- I don’t buy Harbor Freight power tools, but this thing has very good reviews- most say it’s just a rebranded Warn Evo, which is $400 more.I only buy gear as I need it, but after using a trailer hand winch to pull a frame with engine/trans/case, it became necessary. Not even a test for it, but 4 dudes weren’t gonna put that cab on the trailer. Just made a pallet for it and drug it on, no sweat

 

Yes. For sure. To be honest the Carbeau seats already feel nice to sit in. The proportions are just right. But will know for sure after living with them.

 

Seen this a few days ago in Louisville. Whoever this sexy thing is nice work.

 

That cab and bed look to be in excellent condition. What are you going to do with it?

 

I was looking a the same corbeaus before I settled on the Forrester seats. Was nervous to spend money I couldn’t sit in before hand.
