I'm not 4wd or lifted and just looking for a softer ride than I currently have and don't want to sag in the a$$ when toting a smallish load or pulling a pop up

Might want to look at KYB's. Monroe's will ride softer from all i've been told. My buddy has installed them on older taco's. They seem to hold up ok.

I recently had 4 KYB Gas-a-Just installed and really like the ride, they are sturdy and plush at the same time. Original shocks were pretty stiff and not soft, truck has 150,000miles so maybe that's why. I ordered them from the local Napa store. the ride height is the same, which I wanted for ease of entry/exit. I recommend the KYB's, great feel to them. haven't had them off-roading yet, but feel they will hold up fine for my use.

Thanks sounds like what I will go with. I need a softer empty ride for a friend yet stiffer when the truck is loaded

Bilstein 5100's would be a nice upgrade.

Best part is, if you decide to level the Taco, you can raise the front 5100's an 1".

You won’t notice any difference in sagging with shocks alone. Shock absorbers do just that, absorb shock administered by the terrain instead of transferring it to the chassis. There are many nitrogen and oil filled shocks on the market. KYB or Bilstein are good options for gas shocks that won’t break the bank. But to address the sag, you will need to install bags or alter/replace the leaf pack.

You can always go with new shocks and upgraded bump stops to help with load carrying if you're not interested in swapping out springs yet. Timbrens, Wheelers super bumps, Sumo springs to name a few

for @friendswood taco application I second the airbags. 5-15psi around town. Heavy loads, 30-35psi. Add the Daystar cradles and you are good for offroading too.

the kit for the 3rd gens is like $330

Looking for a softer ride, try to find a lightly used TRD OR susp which shouldnt be hard, And add some sumo springs for towing
