I can understand needing to have craft stuff out so you have time to make/build whatever ahead of the actual holiday. But there is no reason to have trees and ornaments out this freaking early!

Ok, I’ll allow your craft stuff but totally agree on the trees and ornaments!

Too early! I'm planning for my family's annual summer reunion. Then there is the start of school for my grandson, Labor Day cook-out, wonderfully comfortable Fall days, ...

It's a life changing experience for the boys, we used it more than the eagle scout as an incentive for the the boys to attain. They really learn what they can endure.

The 2nd year we were there a crew got hit by lightning on Mt Phillips, they all hid under a tree. One boys heart stopped and they gave him cpr untill the emts arrived, he survived and they all were back on the trail in 2 days.

Wow. We all had amazing stories. Only one we encountered was a huge bear that tracked us for a little while on our flank. We were all headed for fish camp and I think he wanted some fish too.
What a great adventure for all of us.

    :thumbsup:I'm glad it went well!

I'd like to tell you I told you so, but I think I told you so... :hattip:

I complain some, mostly because we're still dealing with the Government:anonymous:, but the VA here is better than it was in Washington.

getting my own little air show today.
heard a plane come over. then another hot on its heels. and a third. ran out to the porch and saw an A10 coming in to land. a 4th one right behind him. they all landed within about 90 seconds. then a different noise - 2 F18's coming in. they did a touch and go and circled the valley before coming back to land. had time to throw my 400 mm on the camera for them.

    wonder what they're doing here...

As I mentioned I was very impressed with the quality of care and with Vanderbilt University running it was a plus , I can't believe how bad Loma Linda was

Here's the 2019 quality of care ratings for all VA Med centers

    https://www.va.gov/qualityofcare/measure-up/End_of_Year_Hospital_Star_Rating_FY2019.asp

    Where's the pics :notsure:

I was one of the ASMs for my son's troop. We had a very active, high adventure troop. Local weekend camp outs pretty much every month. Big regional summer camps, whitewater rafting trips, ski trips a few times to the mountains of North Carolina. We were able to get several Philmont and Sea Base treks during our time there. One Boundry Waters trek I didn’t get to make because of work.

I agree the high adventure treks were better at developing the boys than just getting their Eagle Scout. We still pushed that hard and had more than our fair share make it. But watching them develop a on the treks was very enjoyable.

Being from FL we were all used to thunderstorms and air to ground lightening but being in high alpine settings was an eye opener for us. We had never been IN the storm clouds before. I know it gave me a new found respect for getting off high places before storms get in the area.

We heard the bear stories at several staff camps but never saw any. Our high camp at Ute Meadows near Baldy Town had tree scrapes at all the bear bag hanging lines, 8-10’ up the trees.

I would love to retire anywhere on Philmont! I would seriously considering volunteering for an adult staff position for a summer gig to allow me some off duty/after season exploring time in that area of the southwest.
