I have a 2.75” lift on my 2nd gen 4 cyl and I currently have 235/75r15 on my truck.

I’m going to need new tires here in about a month. Is it a bad idea to put bigger tires?

I was thinking about going with 245/75r15, but will that put too much stress on my rack & pinion/ rods with the lift?

You should specify that this is a 2nd gen if that’s the truck your referencing from your bio.

I don’t own a second gen, but they are fairly similar in size to the 3rd gen. I think you won’t have any issues. My truck came stock with 245s on 16in wheels and I was able to upgrade to a larger size without a lift. You have a lift so you should be able to go even larger if you wanted. The fact that it’s a 4cyl shouldn’t matter.

Again, this is my knowledge from 3rd gens. I’ll let someone else correct me if I’m wrong here.

I can fit 31” on it with the lift BUT I don’t want to break my truck with the added stress being that it’s just spacers in the front

I’ve heard of people that have broken their rack and pinion by just putting spacers on the front for a lift.
I’m just concerned about the added stress of bigger tires

You usually can’t. Most of the time your 5 lugs are 4 cylinder along with 15 inch wheels (2nd gen). That’s how they come stock and they look a little funky, unless you get a special type of rim you aren’t gonna hit 16 inches. The problem with 16 inch wheels on 5 lugs is that the way they designed the wheel hub it’s nearly impossible to find wheels that fit correctly over the calipers.

this is with many many many upgrades and esthetics (31” tires coming next Saturday I’ll post when it’s on)

also thinking about getting a throttle controller because the ass behind this thing is just already close to nothing

^ How did you get black bumpers and a chrome grille? Did you paint or replace the bumpers?

I'd be willing to bet that the lift is doing more damage to your tie rod ends and ball joints than 31's will do. I'm not saying that 31's won't add stress, just that the increased suspension angles probably increase wear more significantly than tires.

I’m running 265/75/16 on my Tacoma and haven’t noticed any extra steering stress. I would say you are good to go

    I'm guessing OP's not a 4x4 model? ( AKA, he's a 5 lug, not a 6 lug )

Stock 4cyl 4x4 2nd Gen Taco's came with 245 75 R16's from factory. not sure what the 5 lug, non 4x4 models had. But I can't see them having different front end components.
like most others in this thread, I agree that bigger tires will be fine, I'm running 285 75 R16 now ( on 1st gen Tundra Rims ) and have no issues / complaints
