You're right... I'm still in shock I guess. My wife's tired of hearing me whine! Had to find a new venue!

preach on! I’ve noticed the same. Yes, it happens, but for how many trucks they have sold, it doesn’t seem that common

Yes, but my feeling is that it's happening enough to have multiple threads devoted to it AND considering the cost of the repair (suspect engineering). It's too frequent. But then again...I'm still not able to sit down quite yet.

Indeed, timing cover leak... It is common enough that I think Toyota should do something more formal about it. But my truck was in for service at the dealership since new (bought my 17 in late 2016) and it was only when I was crawling around that I noticed the leak. I was lucky enough to have bought an extended warranty when I bought it new - good to 100,000, so I dodged a bullet getting mine done at 80k.

Still no leaking almost 10k later and everything runs fine so I'd not be too concerned about the work being done. My guess is, despite the 10/10 rating, it's still a really really slow leak on most trucks. Small enough that for most it doesn't even register on the dipstick between oil changes.

Had I NOT had the extended warranty, I'd have had a hard time parting with that kind of money for something that wasn't causing major oil loss. In that case, I would have just kept an eye on it and if it got bad enough to show on the dipstick I'd reconsider.

Have you tried to see how much they will give you for the truck . Might be worth just to dump it since values are high and not pay a cent to repair it .

I was always enjoy the people that mention that everyone comes onto truck forums only to complain about problems. Always someone mentioning how many trucks are sold in a year and how many people on this board complain about an issue. So apparently if 5 TW members complain about a problem than some will lead you to believe that only 5 out of 1,000,000 Tacomas sold have the problem. This is absolutley stupid to look at it this way. Most Tacoma owners are not going to post to a truck forum at all. If there are a considerable number of people complaining of this issue just on this forum, than the problem is most likely quite common.

Agreed, you can call it complaining but at the day this particular issue seems to pop up a lot, as I stated earlier. If not here, where should one seek feedback?

    I appreciate the responses!

If you own a Tacoma, and your not on TW, then you don't matter.

    Update:
Heard back from the Toyota dealer and after they consulted with corporate they have offered to basically split the repair cost three ways between corporate, the dealer and me.
    Bottom line for me $1307.

I'm learning towards doing it because it won't be getting any cheaper! It would be guaranteed for a year.
