    Hey everyone,

Haven't posted on here in awhile due to getting a Jeep and using that more for trails and what not. I've got a question that probably requires a bit of backstory, so here we go.

Was driving back from Maryland a few weeks ago and passed an accident on the right side of the road. Cops had just cleared that one and the left lane was moving pretty good. Dude in front of me slammed on his brakes, as well as everyone in front of him. I did the same, slid up close to him, but had about 20 ft between he and I. Car behind me wasn't so lucky. They came to a stop before hitting me, but dude behind them hit at like 40 mph and slammed them into me. No bad damage to the truck, a few dents in the bumper and a little chip in the paint.

Guy's insurance came out to look at it a few days later and quoted $1800 to fix everything. I was about to have him cut me the check but decided to take it to a body shop and get a quote. However, I also realized that the bed gap varied between the two sides and that the frame might be kinked. Took it to a body shop and they just called me today with the news.

He said the frame is out of alignment about 2.5mm and that Geico has already come by to look at it. They changed the amount of the quote to $2100. So, basically $300 extra dollars to fix a bent frame. Does that sound right? First, I expected it to be more expensive. Second, I've always been of the mindset that if your frame is bent, insurance typically either replaces the frame or totals the vehicle if they can't find a frame for it. This accident will obviously show up on a carfax, and a repaired frame substantially decreases the value of the vehicle, no? Don't get me wrong, if the accident had been my fault and I'd bent the frame 2.5 mm I would never worry about fixing it. But the fact that I'm not the one at fault kind of has me thinking that if the frame is bent, it should be fixed to new condition. Am I wrong in thinking this? If 2.5 mm is like within factory spec, I'll just take the money and shut up. But, I've had bad experiences with insurance in the past and I'm not about to get bent over on this.

    What do you guys think?
