Howdy folks! After 6 wonderful years of owning my 2015 Tacoma, the door lock actuator on the driver door finally went kaput. I priced the whole actuator and nearly fainted when I saw it was $200! I figured I’d replace the $5 motor first before I broke down and spent the $200.

Got the door took apart, took mechanism out, replaced the motor, put everything back together, tested it….HOLY SMOKES IT WORKS! BUT…….now my truck randomly tries to unlock itself sitting in my driveway. Intermittently I can hear the locks trying to click. I don’t know what’s wrong? Surely I couldn’t have shorted anything out? Any help?

TLDR: I replaced the door lock actuator motor in my driver door and now my locks randomly click just sitting in the driveway. HELP.

The lock motors are controlled by the body ECU.
The door switches send a Ground signal to the ECU.
When you press the door lock/unlock switch, it Grounds a terminal(s) on the ECU.
The Body ECU then energizes the Lock motor(s).

My guess and suggestion would be to check the wires and connections to and from the Door Lock Switch.

I guess it’s possible the Body ECU is bad, but I find it highly unlikely.

There's also an unlock detection switch as well as a key lock/unlock detection switch built into the latch, I wonder if something went wonky with one of those or a wire got pinched upon reassembly.

I would also suspect the lock position detection switches as they are in the same assembly where the motor is located. Easy to get out of position.
