Never needed to know till today. I have oil in my coolant tank & its the difference between replacing the oc or removing the head & gasket.

Are you sure it's engine oil and not transmission fluid? There's a transmission cooler in the radiator to think about as well.

There is no engine oil cooler on the 2.7L. As stated above there is a good possibility you are seeing transmission fluid mixed with the coolant from the trans cooler inside the radiator. That is the most common cause.

I would drain the oil and put it in a glass bottle to see how it settles ( water / oil ).
Do the same for the transmission fluid and coolant.

Get the head gasket tested to see if it is blown or not. ( It does sound like it may be ).

It also may be that the radiator heat exchanger for the transmission fluid is compromised and allowing crossover between the coolant and transmission fluid.
