Hello, long story long. I recently purchased a new tacoma and I'm planning a trip with multiple people so I'll need to secure our luggage in the bed. I actually have a fair amount of experience loading a driving trucks but it was all bad experience. My father and grandfather have never been do it the right way kind of people so for years we would just sort of loosely tie random tangles and throw a tarp on top and I thought that was just the way it works.

So now I'm trying to figure out how to do it right. A little research has led me to a cargo bar and a mesh netting for a safe yet cheaper option for securing our bags but I would love to get your advice. How do you all secure your luggage appropriately and safely?

    Thanks.

Mesh is good, I personally just run a ratchet strap through the handles end to end.

Ratchet straps were another option I looked into as well, im specifically taking trip where well be on an incline for at least an hour, steep drive up a mountain. Would that worry you personally to go the extra and do both? Or would you still feel confident with just the straps?

Buy a bed mat, get a tonneau or other covering and you should be fine. Cargo bar if you’re really concerned. Unless you’re packing precious cargo it shouldn’t matter too much if the luggage moves a bit. If it’s gonna be really bumpy, yeah strap stuff down or together with ratchet straps or cam straps.

    Welcome!

Toyota sells a cargo net for our truck. Works great, I love mine.
