My cell phone took a trip in the washer because someone else was being helpful and collected the clothes I just took of while in the shower and put them directly into the machine with out checking pockets. It turned on but never fully booted up after. I had an excellent excuse to buy a new better one.

    Sorry about your Dad, OP.

Sounds like the keys will be fine. No need to worry about it. And forget all the people on here that aren't helpful.

I thought the alarm/panic mode could be stopped by pushing the lock or unlock buttons.

Cell phones are designed to do just that. I read that over 30% of phones purchased are replacements for water damage. :spending:

Those batteries in cell phones are no joke to mess with. We had training at work a few years ago to repair iPhones. One of the requirements Apple wants you to have near your work area when working with damaged devices is 10 pounds of sand to pour over it if the battery gets damaged and ignites which i seen happen.

I took the key apart and removed the battery as soon as I found it. Inside was soaked, and I let it dry in the sun for a half hour and let it dry on the kitchen counter for a couple hours before putting it back together.

Just for safe measures I'm going to keep both keys with me for a few weeks.

    Thanks for the help.

Truly sorry. If you were worried about the horn going off after parking and locking, you could always pull the battery cables. Was not sure of your concern. Be safe on your travels.

Sorry for your loss! Buried my father little over a year ago.

I’ve washed/dried my keys more than a few times. Never and issue. I did replace the batteries each time it’s easy to pop it open and check it.

I guess the trick is to immediately put the keys in the dryer for an hr. All the tumbling doesn't seem to hurt either. My wife couldn't believe the key still worked after all that.

    Very sorry for your loss.

I have both of my keys in aftermarket cases. Both have gone through wash and dry cycles several times and work perfectly. I don't know if having the aftermarket case or the durability of the electronics is the main factor with no failures but I'm thankful they have been working for years after their baptisms. I've since attached an Apple Air Tag to the one use most of the time, and it's just a matter of time before it sees a good dunking and we'll see how the Air Tag holds up. Since getting a vehicle with this function I find it very easy to forget about it in your pocket since it's not usually in your hand when you exit the truck as it is with a physical key.

I have an actual key. My truck is a lowly SR5.

That key ring set up is pretty bulky so it's less likely you'd forget it in your pants pocket, but it could happen and you still have electronics in the key. A bit off topic, but I can't imagine going back to a key you need to insert and have dangling from your steering column.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to forget shit a couple hours after getting the news your dad died. Or maybe I'm just a fucking idiot.

Sorry to hear about your dad.

Kind of odd the panic button doesnt work. Maybe disconnect the horn if you are worried?
