Does anyone have thoughts on diff breathers and gearbox? I've got one stream in the back field that may or may not give me problems. Wondering which brand ya'll recommend?

Toyota OEM are plenty good enough. Just extend the lines to wherever you feel you need from their stock locations.

So something like the ARB breather would be good?
    Or is it just hype?

Hype, maybe… but for the $75 I think I’ll be installing the ARB one as well for the rear. The front is already up high.

I've read that when the hot differential hits cold water, the rapid cooling can create a vacuum effect. If the valve is closed, there is potential for water to be sucked in through the axles.

My understanding is that the OEM valve is a one-way valve, meaning in addition to extending the breather to a higher location, you should switch to a two-way valve. I recently did this mod and I couldn't quite tell if the OEM was one or two-way (seemed like there was at least a little air moving both directions). No matter, a different valve was just a few bucks.

Running 4 Tacos does a good video on the ARB install and the oem valve. Take a look! It’s why I’m doing the ARB.

I don't think it is regarded as 'hype'. It seems to be a nice kit and probably works well. It is just really easy to buy the parts on Amazon for $10-20.

The OEM valve on the rear diff is one way.
Most, like you, for obvious reasons switch to a two-way when doing the relocate.

I figured as much. I think a lot of people re-use the OEM valve, which kind of defeats some of the benefit of doing the mod to begin with. Thanks.

Those Aftermarket breathers are just a waste of $$. Been using fuel line with a fish tank stone for 10 years. Never an issue.

When he said OEM, I figured he meant the OEM 2 way open flow design.

what is the advantage of a 2way breather? the issue with oem wasn't necessarily function but location.
