My wife and I are my making a long (for us) journey from FL to VA in December.

I have a list of things I’d like to upgrade to the truck before our trip, but If like any recommendations you may have :)

    List:
    • KDMAXX tune
    • Roadside kit (need recommendations!)
    • Upgraded headlights or bulbs (our stock SR sucks)

    A bunch of junk
2nd on the fridge, I'm on the hunt for a small one to sit inside the vehicle as we speak. Also keep some emergency toiletries.
    First aid kit
    Tire plug kit
    Snacks
And map out best taco joints along the way.

Best to make your own roadside kit vice buying a pre-made one (they’re cheaply made parts that I doubt will ever work). Look up what’s in a roadside kit and buy each item individually. Ya may pay more but at least you’ll know it works. You can do the same for med kits (if ya care). Also since it’ll be in DEC and VA gets snow sometimes, keep a couple sandbags in the bed for weight on the rear wheels to mitigate slipping/sliding of the rear wheels. Keep a warm blanket in the cab in case ya end up off the road in snow while ya wait for the tow truck.

Seconded on the emergency toiletries. Roll of toilet paper and wet wipes will come in handy and have multiple uses besides being butt wipes.

A fridge is an expensive creature comfort item for a road trip where cold drinks are at every exit along I-95 up the east coast; and probably won’t be needed in DEC.

Good luck out there and I’ll tell ya the Tacoma is an awesome road trip vehicle from my 2x cross country trips I took with it so far.

Man I think you are really over thinking such a short trip. I mean it's not like you are going completely cross country. Lol. Bare necessities man.

Shit I use Waze on my phone over my truck and Garmin gps. Hasn't let me down yet. Seems to avoid traffic much sooner then the other two. When we do our NJ to fla trips I run two gps. Waze and usually the Garmin. I trust Waze much more.

    Two day trip at tops.

New truck in warranty with roadside assistance.

A cooler in the back seat if you are big snackers, a CC and cell phone are all you need. Even if you dawdle on back roads for 4 days.

OP, seriously, you are going to be on I95 most of the way and even of you are going to western Virginia you will be on I77.
You need a cooler, flashlight and a cell phone.
Hell, there is not even a hill until you get to the end and maybe not even then! You have a flat trip!.
If you have hazard flashers you are good. Really. No tune. No kit. No special headlights. Just get in and drive.

I think I may be doing the tune though. if it helps better with shift response, it’s something I gotta consider. past road trip we took to TN was kinda scary. truck really lagged going up the inclines. you could hear the engine struggling to keep up.

everyone keeps saying the same thing. so I’d rather invest $380 into the tune first. the rest can wait.

Your value is in the tune for sure. You forget that it even shifts.

Not really, the drive from Reno to Salt Lake was one thing, but the coast is a piece of cake

Valley runner tune try the free version I've logged thousands of miles and this tune does wonders . It more of a performance daily driver tune . Remember I said daily driver tune and yes and does have performance .Also run premium fuel . These trucks love around 60 to 65mph for economy fuel consumption.
