im convinced that the weather channel is owned by a conglomerate of grocery store chains, who use any weather event to stoke fear to sell out the shelves of said grocery stores.
At least that’s how it goes with winter storms in my AO.

 

To be fair much of the population on the east coast is somewhere between the coast and a massive mountain range. Pretty difficult to predict what storms are gonna do as they get within 100 miles of land or going up over the hills.
Then again yea the weather guys are pretty bad still and go nuts with the fear mongering. Imagine living within like 400 miles of the coast and being scared of storms

 

We don’t need the weather channel down south to indicate a raid on the grocery stores is needed, a single snowflake in winter will do…

The absolute best surfing you ever get on the east cost is when hurricanes, noreasters, and tropical storms hit. Best part about it is the beaches are closed so there are no crowds. Fond memories of surfing Bob when it hit in '91. Middle of August and the water temps where perfect. Biggest waves I've been stupid enough to get on. Fun times for us stupid folk. lol

Back in the 2000’s I bartended on the beach on the east end of Long Island, and I used to swim every lunch break during my hour.
End of September rolls around and we had huuuuuge swells, and I’ll cut the story short right there…

Don’t learn to surf when the waves are 5 times bigger than normal.
Especially if you aren’t a STRONG swimmer.
