iirc the security light turns off when the transponder is recognized. When switching to the flip key I broke my transponder and the truck cranked endlessly as you described.

I'm not sure why it would happen out of the blue though.

Is it possible that someone would have tried to copy the codes/steal the truck @Tyler__LaRue? Not sure of your location or crime rate.

@tonered any techstream tips to check for a bad transponder chip?

extremely unlikely. I had driven the truck around noon and my wife tried to drive it around 3pm and it would not start. We live in a very rural area we would have known if someone came on the property

Gotcha. The key transponder was my only guess. Someone here can hopefully help you, if not it looks like a tow to a dealership is in your near future

i really think it has something to do with the key chips or some part of that system. Let’s hope it’s not too pricey

Maybe a mobile locksmith could try to program a new key for you. I'm not sure if it can be done without a working transponder or not.

I assume the dealership will need the truck and the keys if that’s the problem not just the keys. Is that correct ?

I would think so. They'll likely have to delete the current keys from the ECU and add new ones.

When I programmed a new transponder I had to use my spare key as the master key and I'm assuming it's code was copied to the new transponder chip.

Without a master key code to copy I'm assuming they have to assign a new one to the ECU.

I could be totally wrong on this though so I would call them and explain the situation to see what they can do for you. My dealer quoted me ~$200 for a new key and to program it for me as a cost reference.

Keep us updated on the resolution

Sounds like a key concern… strange it is but most likely will need a tow to the dealer… security light should not flash once it recognizes a key which yours Apparently isn’t doing…. I’m assuming the key fobs work ….

You can try to re-pair the immobilizer with the ecu. I dunno why it would suddenly lose pairing but it definitely sounds like an issue with the immobilizer system

I don’t believe there’s a check but you can reset pairing, pair new keys, etc

There is probably some diagnostic function. I have only used it to program my flip key though.

I’m going to try the ecu rest one more time. If that doesn’t work I suppose I have to give in and send it to the dealer. I’ve never had someone else work on my vehicles or equipment always done it myself. But in this day and age what’s a guy to do with all these gizmos

I'm reverting to "Old School" thinking. Probably either an electrical or fuel issue.
Do you have a spark at one of the spark plugs?
Do you have access to a volt meter (any $5 meter from Harbor Freight will do). Verify the fuses/circuit breakers with it, don't rely on their appearance alone.

It’s at the dealership now. They say it will be Monday before they can look at it.

Got the truck back from the dealership. As suspected it was the security system. The transponder was bad and replaced. Problem solved. Thanks for the help guys
