Hey guys. This is a great thread. It's been a while since I've built a system for a truck or anything. The mini truckin and system procomps were great every spring break back home in Daytona.

I'm starting to plan my stereo upgrade for my 2010 double cab over the next year. I've seen some stuff about *********, but it's hard to find A LOT about them. I like that they use image dynamics which used to be great, but how are they now?

I priced out there lower tier full setup and it falls right in my price range. I've also looked at the "cheap build" threads and read about some of those different builds. Like the Kicker Cs/Ks builds. If I can go with ID and be happy I like the sound so that.
    $1000 speakers/hardware
    $1000 for headunit/accessories (maestro rr2) I like the Kenwood 907s headunit

Keep the great build pics coming and thanks for you input.

Image dynamics is def not the same brand they were in the late 90’s early 2000’s. They are a decent bargain brand but you can def build a better system is you dont do premade builds from companies. If you are adding a sub then entry level speakers will be ok even though the bass reproduction is not great. If no sub then pay for a middle tier component setup and a small amp and sound deadening in the doors to get the bass up.

It's going to be Door speakers and headunit to start. Eventually add 1 10" sub.
Thanks for the feedback. Back to the sub pictures !

So because of work and family, this has been a slooooow process, chipping away some nights and weekends - finally done, been at it since March…

I only know of two TW members, @Florida_Tacoma and @turbo598, that have done blowthroughs - this guys are SPL aficionados, not me - I just love loud, tight, accurate bass, I’m more interested into a SQ set up.

Next project is swapping my two JL Audio TW-88 DSPs for a Mosconi 8 to 12 Aerospace.

Just buttoned up everything today, finally!!! Very happy with the results.

I just built myself a new computer desk and headphone stand out of 13 ply Baltic birch plywood that's stained Mahogany . I loved the grain on my desk and I saw that yours is similar. How did this box end up working out for you? I kinda like the idea of the Birch in my truck also.

I love the idea of having a shelf back there. Having some type of usable storage is still a great thing, especially when camping or something like that.

    Nice.

I liked the look of it, but to be honest I rarely saw it and neither did anyone else, of course unless I showed them..

The fit was as dead on as one could possible get. A lot of measuring etc.

Baltic birch is supposed to be one of the best materials for boxes.

    The sound,
a lot of people seemed to think it sounded good, but to be honest I was never happy with my system overall.. Which could be greatly in part to my tinnitus or critical listening, but that's a whole other story..
Also more in relation to subs, in the past I was used to other setups with bigger boxes and normal sized subs, which was a much better bass IMO. Guess I'm not a fan of what I've heard when it comes to flat subs, maybe there's some out now that I'd be impressed by, but I'm not sure honestly.

I still have the box with the subs in it, in fact my whole system, just sitting in the garage.

Any other specific question/s? I'm not sure if I answered what you may have wanted to know?

The difference between my sealed, Baltic birch box with one JL Audio 13TW5 sub and the new sealed, Baltic birch box with two JL Audio 12W7s is NIGHT AND DAY! :headbang:

I know that a blowthrough is NOT everyone’s cup of tea… but believe me, I am sooooo happy I took the plunge. The kind and quality of the bass on my system now is worth the super long and slooooooooow build process I went through.

As well as the uncertainty of how it was going to turn out in the end.

Blowthroughs have been around since the early ‘80s. But like I said just TWO in the whole TW universe, so to me it was a reading and asking some members here, and learn as I was going through it.

Really happy. For serious bass without compromising, this is the only way to go IMHO.

Still need to complete a few other details to have the build complete. Maybe then I’ll post a whole “build tread” full of pics…

    Cheers

    Rick

lots of respect for doing it. i 'downgraded' from 2 10W7's sealed in my last install, and then got a 13TW5 sealed in the Tacoma. i knew it would be a compromise and it was in huge ways. so i just decided to enjoy the punch at the expense of everything else, and it's ok. but i miss my sea-of-bass with the W7s. unfortunately i can't even consider a setup like yours, but damn is it purdy.

    Hey Y'all.

Any feelings on the Jl Powered subwoofers they offer? JL Audio ACS110LG-TW1 is a powered 10" sub that they offer. It is a shallow mount box " only 5" deep. This setup will fit behind the passenger rear seat, just in between the small divider and the end near the center. I am just thinking ahead. What is the best path to run the wiring for the amp?
    Thanks.

Just throwing this out there in case anyone wants an actual stereo you can hear in your 1st gen double cab.

2 10's powered by 1600 watts running on a 2ohm speaker setup. The box is divided with .52 ci or .55 ci air space on each side.(my memory is a little fuzzy on this)

I have limited knowledge but pulled this one off. I was told by the local shop it sounded incredible, so yeah, I'll take it!
    Hope this helps someone.

Just starting out, give me time
Very clean setup and install, I did notice something strange though, you have this big box in your bed for the subs to be loud and accurate but then you have plastic seat backing directly in front of the sub soundwave. Why did you not remove this? Would that not just kill the crap out of the sub sound. :notsure:

Running my dads old two Orion XTR10's with an Orion 225 HCCA 50 Watt 1/2 ohm stable Amplifier. He used to run these when he bought them new in 1992. They sat for about 25 years and he says they sound just as good as they used too. The subs are in a 3 Chamber Bandpass enclosure that he made back when. We mounted the amp to the box because we wanted to be able to remove everything easily should I need too.E8F3EA3A-4AE1-4454-AEF0-367D64E7E541.jpg

My whole idea behind my install was to keep it looking like it came from the Toyota assembly line like that.

I have the inside of the plastic seat cover covered with SoundSkins. So there is ZERO rattle/noise…

Not sure if you ever heard a par on 12W7’s, but, believe me - IMHO there is NO less output with those subs even with the seat up like there is nothing behind them.

Again, that was my goal, to keep it looking “stock”. Didn’t want to have to gut or remove anything out.

I also had to do lots of plastic welding to make sure the luggage bins looked like they belong there.

Overall, super happy with how it turned out. Now is just the easy part. I’ll be installing the Mosconi Aerospace 8 to 12 DSP replacing TWO TWK88’s.

    Cheers!

    Rick
