That was us in Nebraska and Ohio, but that was the early 80s too. We had heat in the very front and very back - if you were in the middle you either froze or you broiled.

 

No AC on our busses in 80’s and 90’s either. That just meant the windows were down and we could throw stuff out the bus when crankshaft wasn’t looking. Books, papers, nails (from shop class) etc.

 

School bus? We walked.

We couldnt afford watches! We had wrist mounted sundials, and it was always fuckin cloudy!

And you had to leave for morning classes before you got home from the prior day!

 

While my walk was uphill only one way, it was a hell of a hill. Something like 110ft elevation change within half a mile.

 

This is awesome.

 

we were given a baked potato in the morning to keep our hands warm in sub freezing temperatures. Then we ate the potato for lunch.

World's Fastest-Accelerating Roller Coaster Closes After Breaking Riders' Bones


Known as one of the world's most terrifying amusement park rides, the Do-Dodonpa roller coaster in Japan's Fuji-Q Highland, located near the base of Mount Fuji, has been shut down by the region's prefectural government. The closure comes after several passengers sustained fractured bones while on the ride—though the exact cause of the injuries has officials stumped.

The coaster, known for its "super death" speeds, is the fastest-accelerating roller coaster in the world, going from zero to 112 miles per hour in 1.56 seconds. The "air-launched" ride also features the globe's largest loop, reports Fuji-Q's website.
The injuries that prompted the ride's suspension occurred between December 2020 and August 2021, though the precise number of injured passengers varies across news outlets: the Mainichi Shimbun reported that "four people have broken bones" on Do-Dodonpa, whereas Vice wrote the victims numbered "at least six."

Of the six, "four of them said they broke their neck or back," said a Fuji-Q spokesperson, according to Vice.
The Mainichi Shimbun explained that those injured were "in their 30s to 50s." On the ride, they "broke bones including in their neck and back, with full recovery requiring between one and three months."

 

...^^^... An aircraft carrier jet launch is about 2 seconds to 150-170 MPH ... and in a much better seat and back-neck supporting equipment.

That roller-coaster is probably a bit over the edge for the average person in that seat.

 

That’s something like 3G acceleration.

Considering the general level of “health” among the common public*, and that the seats are more than likely not well conformed to individual limb lengths, the results are unsurprising.

* and that’s in Japan…. Can you imagine the results with typical American amusement park visitors?
