I own one with the Crimson Trace grips. An absolutely wonderful pistol. Very nice DAO trigger. Extremely light. It can get a little snappy with the 38+p loads but it is still manageable and accuracy is acceptable for a snubbie. I carry Speer Gold Dot Short barrel ammo. My LCR kicks harder with +P 38's than my heavier SP101 kicks with 357's. When I bought it, the 357 LCR model was not available. That's probably a good thing. 357 would recoil like hell in a gun that light.

Yeah I thought about the 357 but then decided it might be a bit much for that light of a gun. I'm glad to hear it doesn't kick to bad. I have to sell another gun before I can get the Ruger but it is def on my list. Thank you for your help.

At one time or another, I've owned damn near every pistol on the planet. The LCR is one of my favorites. Its that nice. I think Ruger just lowered the price on them too.

Awesome! I'm excited to get it and I'm going for my CCW shortly. I think it will be a good gun to stick in a pocket or carry in a holster. Thank you all again for you opinions.

personal i think that a revolver is a great IWB gun but to large for pocket carry. As for the LCR i love it i dont own one but its what my mom carries i like the pocket rocket .380s for EDC and right now im looking at selling my LCP and getting a S&W Bodyguard .380. Is there are reason you want to go with a revolver over a simiauto?

I have been looking at these for a while now. I need to quit buying for my truck, and buy one of them. I currently carry a sub 40, but want a 38. Should be much easier to carry. Plus the lcr is super light.

I have both semiauto and a revolver. I like the revolver for the reliabilty of it. It will always fire. I went to a gun show this past weekend and decided against the LCR. I instead got the Smith & Wesson .38 bodyguard.

I'm glad to hear that. I just got a hogue bantam grip for it and installed it. Haven't had the change to shoot it with the new grip though.

Better gun? Neh, matter of preference. Both should last forever. Typically Rugers are built stronger. Smiths used to always have better triggers. That is not necessarily the case anymore. You shot a bad shooter. Mine is quite accurate for a snub nose. I've owned 2 J frame model 65's, 2 Ruger Sp101's, and A Ruger LCR. They were all great. I prefer the Rugers due to the strength. Smiths are a little frail for full house loads like Buffalo Bore. I also believe Smiths are overpriced.

They're both great and it comes down to preference. The old Ford vs. Chevy argument.

I also thought Smiths were over priced, but when I went to the gun show the Smith and the Ruger were the same price.

Glad you like your Smith. I've had my LCR for a couple of months now and really like it. I carry mine with Federal Premium Nyclad HP Personal Defense and when I shot it, I was surprised to see that there was no difference in feel when compared to the standard FMJ. At nearly $1.25 per round, I only shot five...

Smith recently lowered the price of the j-frames, you can find them around $400 now and it would def. be my first choice. I would also question the strength comments. Ruger builds great revolvers but I don't think the polymer lcr is as strong as aluminium.

If I was going to carry a revolver I would get the Taurus 4510. It's chambered for a .45 or a 410 shotgun shell.

From what I was told by my gun shop owner, Smith has not turned a profit in a long time and they lowered the price for two reasons. One, they knew they were pricing themselves out of the market (people will only pay so much for loyalty) and two, this is a last ditch effort to even stay in business.

It is safe to assume, the quality will go down with the price.

When I was speaking of Ruger's well-known strength. I was implying the steel guns, not necessarily the LCR. I kinda got off the LCR topic there.

I agree, for the most part. I generalize and when I say j-frame I think of the 442,642,637 guns that are quite affordable. Outside of that box I would agree and think smith has not had the quality to match there price in some time. I also think Ruger makes great revolvers and most I have seen have better lock up then there competition at any price. I work in a gun shop and have not seen any difference in the j-frames thus far, was told by smith rep that were going after taurus's share and basically have just done away with the rebate program and lowered the cost of the guns. We have already seen this reduction and have 442's and 642's at $399 or $419 depending on finish.

As for the future, I believe the hybrid "bodyguard" revolvers are going to be the replacement for the current all aluminium frame.

The ruger LCR has hands down the best DA trigger ever out of the box for a revolver. The .357 version is only 4 oz more and is stainless not polymer. neither is the .38, the .38 is aluminum frame. both have a polymer grip and FCG. It is NOT a horrible shooter, is is an amazing weapon. One handed and moving. As for strength and being able to handle magnum loads..... MPI testing on it was good to go

A little off topic but interesting to those debating some of the carry options here.

www.ballisticsbytheinch.com is an interesting site for some research, it's amazing what happens to some favored loads when fired from very short barrels. It may influence your decision?
