So I haven't tuned my truck yet but someone was nice enough to meet up this weekend and tune my truck for free. I am planning on keeping the truck for as long as possible. Would it make sense that after I have the truck tuned by a fellow TW member to also buy the OV tune files so I can do it myself? I don't know how often people adjust their tunes or swap in a new tune to get the drivability to where they want it. Thanks guys.

my opinion is that it depends. I've been running OV since the alpha days, before AT files, and my intention all along was and is to keep the truck forever. I've modified the craziness out of my truck and the performance has changed, OV/vF has changed, and it has, for me at least, required a continual adapting to keep it right. but the tunes i have found are very close to perfect nowadays... I'm on Coyoza for the MTs. it runs better than ever, and as predictable as i could want. it's a locked tune as is KDMax, so you can't edit these yourself. the OV/vF files i had previously had tons of my own edits and it was good but inconsistent with performance, and inconsistency is the worst thing, at least on a MT.

the upshot is I'm very happy and this is the best it's been by a stretch. but if i could get the tuner to unlock it and get it on a dyno with him, it could certainly be dialed in a bit more as i tend to run rich, but that is about some other mods on my truck and I've not seen others talk about running rich. so i think you'd be good to try some tunes, see what you like, and call it a day... and wait for possible tune updates from the tune writers who may do that as vF updates with more available editing. 1.3.0 vF is imminent with more tune enhancement possible.

    Cool stuff
I got 15k on the tune ..... It helps the nature of the low torque motor feel correct if that makes sense ..... I’m on 2.0 Octane Learning final tune right before the VF stuff started

I ran the OV premium tune for 40K+ miles (2.0 for about 15K of those) and just flashed KDMax yesterday. OVtune was a huge improvement over stock and KDMax is a big improvement over 2.0, much smoother at partial throttle in first and second and rev hang is noticeably reduced. But I have zero interest in playing with maps, I want to set it and forget it.

How and where can I buy the OVTune?!!!! I haaaaattteeee the way my 2016 TRD shifts - I've had a similar experience as OP - thought I'd bought a lemon at first. Shifts smoothly, just stupidly lol. I will pay for the OVTune if it's really as good as everyone is saying. Please let me know where I can get one. Thanks!

I'm in Texas, so I guess I'd have to find someone down here to do it? Also, I see a product that's the software and cabling, then tuner packages. Would I have to buy both?

@mZiggy is in El Paso, if your near. Otherwise see the Feelers thread in my signatrue.

Yes. You would need both to get the Software, Hardware, and Tune files.

Gotcha, makes sense. Unfortunately I'm about 13 hours away from El Paso lol. I'm closer to the Dallas area, so I'll check out the feelers thread.
And just so I'm on the same page as you, I'm going to attach 2 screen shots of what I need to buy, for confirmation. Also, appreciate the information!

    You're welcome.

Those are the two items that you need. Of course, you'll need a portable Windows computer also.

Unless he just gets the software and buys a custom tune from somewhere that he intends to run, without the OVTune tune pack files

But it seems like the OVTune files are what everyone's recommending....

    Enjoy the tunes!

I would plan on a week for the order to process and another week for it to be delivered.
