So, it is hot as hell here in Louisiana. I have a snorkel mated to a volant cai and I’m curious to what temperatures others are getting on their IAT’s? I know idling will raise temps. What’s a decent temp though? Will wrapping the intake box and tube lower said temps? Pro’s/Con’s? Anyone wrap their intake tube and box with some sort of heat shield?

Do you have a scan gauge or something to measure the outside temps and intake temps? Your intake shouldn't be much more than the ambient air temp when moving with a snorkel. I have the URD intake and it only gets a few degrees warmer than the outside temps when not moving as soon as the truck is moving for a bit its the same temp. Don't see why your set up would be any different as it's getting air from outside the engine bay. Also there are reflective heat tapes that are better than header wrap DEI makes one that I know of...

I use BlueDriver to monitor a few things, one being intake air temperature. I was thinking the ambient temp should only be a few degrees off from the IAT’s. If I’m stopped at a long red light or drive trough, it’ll climb. I saw it get up to 128° while waiting in a drive through yesterday and that’s why I made the thread.

Do the early version of Tacoma's show the outside temp? I relocated my outside Temp sensor so that it's right by my Air filter even though I monitor my IAT's with my scan gauge. I don't really drive my truck in any congested areas so don't see any crazy temps. I can see being surrounded by concrete and other automobiles the temp sky rocketing if there is no wind around to cool things off... Might want to to and see what the ambient air temp is to compare the two.
