My 2020 had its first oil change a few weeks ago and this morning I noticed the oil cap was missing so I bought a new cap.
Does anyone know what sort of damage might’ve been done to the motor? Should I have it checked out?

I think if you didn't do any harsh driving, windy conditions in your area, or rain. You should be fine.
But if you are a little concern. Another oil change might be good just to see and be clear of any possible contamination.

Funny that you post this because same exact thing happened to me a few months ago. Dealer refused to replace the cap, they did do an oil change on their dime, I'm sure yours's did not leak any oil. The fill tube on the Tacoma is long, I would mostly be concerned with the amount of dust and debris that got into the oil. In my case I drove 1k miles without the cap until I noticed.

In before someone says "totaled " or "part it out".

You should be fine. But here on out you should consider changing your own oil to make sure it's done right. This type of ineptitude happens way to often at dealers and oil change places.

Yet another perfect example (among many) posted on here of why you should never take advantage of the “free 2year maintenance” plan. If you want to trust some oil/lube tech to do work on your $40+k truck, these are the results you get

You mean $50k+ truck right? $40k trucks are way past ToyotaCare coverage nowadays

If it was me, i'd replace the oil and filter for peace of mind and just move on, I doubt you incurred any serious damage, if any at all. Just another reason why i dont let anyone touch my cars for basic stuff like that

Is there oil mist all over the engine bay? I had a dealer do this once on an old car and the engine bay was coated in oil (since the gunk that normally goes through the PCV was coming out the oil filler) I had them degrease it, replace the cap and do another oil change.

    Thanks for the comments!
No oil in the engine bay due to the long filler tube. Called the dealer today and they informed me that there was service available from when I bought it. Wasn’t aware of that.
So I’m going to have it checked out tomorrow, and will update.

Go back to the dealer, raise some hell and tell them you want another oil change. and if they refuse report them to TOYOTA, the BBB or both.
When you get it back, at the dealer, open the hood and check the oil level and that they put back the oil cap.

When you get home, search around for a reputable repair shop, BBB rated and with a good rep and go there from then on.

Forget the freebees, no such thing, not worth it

    Cheers

Buzz or oil cap, which is more important to a minimum wage oil wrench jockey?

    Nuff said.

Personally I'd check the oil drain plug to make sure it was not x threaded and that it is tight.

While you are checking the drain plug, also make sure they did not strip the threads on your skid plate bolts. The free Toyota oil change I received at 20K was not worth the price.

You don't get ToyotaCare because you're in North Mexico.

Back in 1985 I bought a brand new Camry and at the first scheduled oil change the dealer service staff left the oil cap off. I discovered the cap missing three days after we got the car back. Had a nice big oil stain on the under hood insulation. Went back and complained, was treated as though I left it off. Nice!
So for years and years now I do my own maintenance and if somethings not right, I bitch at that guy in the mirror...ha!
