I’m planning to buy a 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 manual in the very near future. I want to avoid doing a lift as my wife is short and I have a six year old daughter, but I’d like I nicer look with a wider stance. I’ve been trying to figure out what wheels and tires to go with to accomplish that, and came across this set that I like. The wheels are 2” wider I believe, but the tires seem to be the stock size. Site says they fit, but any advice on sizes or places to check for more info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You should be able to fit most 17 inch rims with 265/65/17 or 265/70/17 without any major issues. You can also save a boatload of money and just pick up some hubcentric spidertrax or bora spacers.

For what its worth, I have a 2" lift with 265/75/16s (overall my truck is about 2.5" taller than stock) and its not terribly high. I have 0° sliders and my 5'3 wife has no issues, our 2 year likes to climb into the driver seat if I leave the door open and our 5 year old has no issues getting in and out of his seat.

I’m considering the 2” TRD lift, so all the safety stuff still works right (and the grille is pretty cool too), but I am ok with the way it sits stock as well. I had 2” spacers on my Jeep with wider and slightly taller tires, and I liked the wider stance. Spacers are definitely cheaper, but I want wider tires, so I figure I’ll get nicer rims as well. Just trying to figure out what size wheel/tire/offset I need to get that look without causing any issues.

Going wider on tires (285+) you're going to need a CMC.

That looks expensive, considering it’s not something I can do myself. I guess the best bang for my buck would be the TRD lift and some wheel spacers then. Or just get a TRD Pro… probably be close in price at that point anyhow.

First of all, get an Off Road instead of a Spirt! You get sooo much more for virtually the same price.

Secondly, get some awesome 265/75/16 Duratracs.

    Done!

I think most shops will do a CMC somewhere in the $300 ballpark. So not super expensive.

I’ve been trying to determine what the big difference between the two are? Main things I noticed was the off road had a locking differential and off road tuned shocks as opposed to the Sports “sport tuned”. I want a manual, so I’m wondering if the crawl control even comes on it. I’ve mainly been looking at the sport because I like the hood scoop. I’m still trying to decide, so tell me why I want the off road instead. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I strongly suggest test driving both the sport and off road (if you can find both) and decide what floats your boat. I found the suspension on the sport to be too harsh for my liking and I also didn’t like the scoop blocking my vision. I off road (no rock crawling) so for me the off road was the best choice, your results may vary. Whatever you choose post it up, we love pictures of tacos here.

Looks awesome! I don’t really off road, but I also currently drive an Accord, so not really an option either, lol. I drove a Frontier before that I really liked, but the Tacoma is king. Had one years ago in college. It was a 4cyl manual and you had to get out and lock the front hubs for 4wd. It’s one of only two vehicles I’ve had that I regret getting rid of.

I have had a bunch of trucks over the years, my 17 replaced a 84 , manual hubs on that one. No fun locking the hubs in the middle of a mud puddle!

I'm not gonna lie, I too like the skewp. It's what differentiates between the TRD Spirt and the SR5.

    I'm assuming double-cab? I'd go OR then.
If access-cab you need to go Sport to get the manual transmission.

Pushing the tires outward will cause rubbing
Ive got 265/75/16’s and 2 inch spydertrax wheel spacers and they rub pretty badly.

you and me both will need a cmc

The MTs do not have CrawlControl or MultiTerrainSelect. They do have ATRAC, which is a one setting MTS and all that you really need.

In the end if you are getting a DCSB MT, then go the OR route. The Sport is plenty capable, but for the same price, you might as well get the rear locker. If you want an ACLB MT, then the decision swings to a different direction. No regrets here.

You can always hood swap with a TW'er for a Skewp. I'm generally indifferent.

Yeah, from the advice here I’m thinking I’ll just go with the TRD lift, and slightly wider wheels with the correct offset. Being that it will be brand new, I don’t want to cause any issues with the safety systems or warranty, and the rubbing would drive me nuts. They are pretty cool just the way they come anyway, so I’m looking forward to it either way.
