    Literally it’s plastic…

just sold my tonneau and want to get rid of my cutout bed rails. Went to the stealership and they quoted me $250.

my jaw hit the floor. Didn’t know Toyota was becoming BMW

Maybe because they are plastic and can be damaged easily?
Or maybe because $250 is cheap compared to fixing metal bed rails?

I’ve had both, and damaged both.
I prefer the plastic, mostly because it doesn’t rust.

Is finding ones from a totaled truck and option?

That’s true plastic is much cheaper than anything else.

if I can find one from a totaled one I would be so pumped lol

It was more expensive than that on my 15 year old F-150. The tooling to mold a piece that big ain’t cheap.

Did the railcaps get brittle and break into 3 pieces when you snap them off the bed? No? Then you didn't buy a BMW.

Look up car-part.com for salvage yard trucks in your state.

Where have you been? Guess you've never spent any time at Toyota's parts counter.
Try comparing a Toyota hitch receiver to aftermarket.

People have no idea. In my work life, we have plenty of injection and blow molding customers, large to small. Those molds can be tens, and hundreds of thousands of dollars. The machines are millions, and they need hundreds of HP of compressed air. Then think of the electric bill, my customer & friend, once told me during a hot summer and busy month, their electric bill was well over $100k.

Remember to keep you caps next time, buy used, or pay the stealership

    BMW? No.

Next time you go to the dealership, go to the parts department, ask for the part you look for, they will quote you more cheaper instead. Which $250 may be include all rails or labor. Ask them that you put it on yourself.. not them.

I know the part would be about $55 for front end.

Bedside rails may cost more since they are bit longer than the front end.

Jeez that's it? That's a cheap month for us , some of our customers will actually shut down on different days/times of day because they can actually make more money not producing anything than they would running the plant and paying for electricity....pretty wild.
Agreed though, compressed air is stupid expensive and inefficient to make.
$250 for the pair doesn't seem all that terrible.

I think the real question you want to ask here is why is EVERYTHING so expensive:rofl:

Anything at the dealership is always too expensive though.

The metal rail is used for the tie-downs. I think OP is talking about the plastic side & front bed side covers (plastic).
