But I've reached the conclusion that it is overpriced garbage. It's a 2021 Sport with around 5k miles on it. I've had it for two months and it's been back to the dealer twice so far.

The first time it was because it was shaking when slowing down, felt like the rotors were going bad. They worked on the rotors and it kind of helped. I took it back two weeks later because of the same problems, and the throttle vibrates.

They said that the throttle vibrating is "something that Tacoma's do". As far as the braking, they replaced the leaf springs and the steering damper. As far as the braking is concerned it seems to have helped, but it's still not great. And the throttle issue is....of course still there.

But the thing that really kills me about the truck is the transmission. It seems to always be in the wrong gear.

I've read that the ovtune helps this, but for almost 46k.....the truck should not be doing this. And I don't want to spend, at least another $300 for something that may help.

I'm beginning to look into trading it in on something else. But before I do....does anyone here have any suggestions for me?

I agree that the truck should not be this way from the factory, the transmission should be better... but it's not and much of it has to do with emissions and crap. That said, you spent $46k on the truck, but another $250-300 is too much to fix it? If you trade it in, you'll almost certainly lose more than that.

Then it's time to let it go whe the used prices are up. You may even get more than you payed for.

Bummer man. Everything's not for everyone. Life's short, dump it and get something you enjoy. Try Go for extended test drives on the new vehicle too!

If I knew for sure that it would fix it I might do it. But to be honest I'm so pissed off about the whole situation that I don't want to dump any more money into it

The tune is 1000% worth it, it will fix the transmission issues. I think after buying a brand new truck you are hyper sensitive to issues like anyone would be spending that kind of money. The vibrations should be resolved by the dealer and spend the money on the tune. Your Tacoma will outlast any truck on the market if taken care of and will hold its value far better than any other vehicle. Remember why you bought it to begin with!

I got the Sibi Tune. I’m in Utah and they are out of California. The KDMax is the only other tune I’d touch. What area are you in?

Sorry to hear about your experience. Being a used truck, it could be any number of things.

That said... $46k for a used sport? :bananadead:

Well, it seems to be a great time to trade or sell your Tacoma if you decide to do that. Especially if you don’t need to buy another vehicle immediately. I actually traded my 2017 Tacoma after 5 months. Similar issues as you describe. BUT, I’m back three years later. Fortunately, I’m appreciating my 2020 much more. Good luck!

Try driving it in S5 all the time, it's much cheaper than getting rid if it.

I recently sold my 08 4cly Tacoma and purchased a new 21 SR5 and the conclusion I’ve come to is these trucks just have some quirks. Can it be frustrating? Definitely. Do any of the little quirks leave you stranded? Very, very rarely. As far as the transmission goes your truck is pretty fresh still at 5k miles. I’ve heard several folks driving it closer to the 10k-20k mark before it really starts to settle in and shift more appropriately. It is an adaptive learning transmission that will adapt to how it is driven and I’ve heard it’s best not to baby it, but drive it a little hard and get it to learn to shift when you want it to. I’ve got a little shake when slowing down as well but that seems to be going away. My 08 taco always had its weird idles, revs and was bulletproof with almost 160k miles when I sold it. I’d say give it sometime and see if things improve. If not get a 4Runner. For quality and drive ability it is absolutely the superior vehicle if you don’t need the truck bed. Good luck.

If you don't like it then sell it. The tune will help the transmission and performance, but if you aren't happy overall then don't do it. You prob wont lose much selling it either in this market. I personally get new trucks every 5 years so Idc how long this thing lasts as long as it makes it to 5 years
