Multiple 10" woofer enclosure build- Access cab, four seats

I'm going to be ready to build my new woofer cabinet pretty soon. The main goal is to have more than enough bass to keep up with my front stage while keeping the two rear seats and tight sound. I will be using the JL 10W6 woofers powered by an Alpine PDX M12.

Design 1:

The only concern with this design is the possibility of getting mixed sounds because one woofer is firing into a surface while the other is not. I'll have to do some more research before I rule this one out or not.

Design 2:

I will most likely go with this design. It's pretty straight-forward.

Design 3:

If Design 1 proves to be worth-while, I might decide to add a sub. I will likely have to create a partition in this enclosure to maintain the small net internal volume the W6 calls for. If I do decide on having three woofers, I will have to choose another amp to power them with.

 

Have you thought about firing them inverted? That way the magnets are outside the box and you have more mounting options.

And I think it's important to note that 2 will be plenty. I wouldn't waste the money on the 3rd woofer.

 

Also, in the first design, as long as the cone doesn't hit the object and has about an inch of clearance at full excursion you shouldn't notice any type of sound difference.

 

Yeah, it clears the center console pretty well; I forgot to mention that the drawings are to scale, I drew them with what little drafting skills I possess for AutoCad hahah. I have considered inverted mounting, I'm just not farmiliar with that type of design yet. I will have to talk to my boss about what pros and cons I could run into.

As far as three being too much, I'm still kicking around the idea of having a third woofer but I do want to be able to have ALOT of bass at my disposal. plus, my co-worker at the shop wont shut the fuck up about he is doing 4 tens in his STI (not W6's, he is doing W1's) and how he thinks its going to be louder, so now I feel obligated to REALLY out-do him, as well .

 

Couple of things.

1) Inverted mounting really wont change the sound much if any. And the W6 basket is fairly well vented. Just make sure you account for the magnets NO LONGER displacing any internal volume for the box. Just subtract the displacement of two subs (2x0.068 cu. ft) and build it.

2) Your buddy has a trunk car, you have subs 18 inches from your head in a single cab truck. Yeah, we'll see what's up. He'll have efficiency on his side but no way he can take as much power as your setup. Just make sure that amp of yours is ready.

 

yeah, my boss told me pretty much the same thing today regarding both topics, haha. i'm most likely going to alter design 1 and go with that.
