    *HOLDS HANDS UP*

Not for long! I put my 2013 JKRU up for sale on the 21st of August, and sold it on the 23rd of August for about $1600 less than I paid for it 6 years and 70,000 + odd miles later........Amazing times we live in. I figured it might be time for a Tacoma!

    Let me introduce myself,
My name is Brian, and after having had a JKRU for the past 6 years (and honestly loving it) I'm selling it for several factors, not the least of which was a couple of mechanical "abnormalities" on the way back from a recent wedding anniversary trip. This combined with the fact that neither my wife nor daughter like riding with the top and doors off, as well as the thought of replacing all that weather stripping (which has already been leaking a tiny bit) really sickened me.
The wife has always known I've thought Tacos were super attractive trucks, and I figured the timing was right to sell my Jeep and buy a Tacoma.

Now that the Jeep is sold (hes flying in from Atlanta this Saturday on my B-Day to collect it and drive back home), I've been doing some reading on your wonderful forums, and already found some very useful information.
The 285/75/17 post has already yielded some great info! This was the size I have been thinking about going with, and have been now contemplating lifts to accommodate.

I'm hoping to invest in a 2019 or 2020 3rd gen this coming Spring, but want to get all my financing ducks (and knowledge!) straight before I go seeking a new truck.
Anyway, thanks for allowing this Jeep convert in!

    Brian

    Thanks!
Our JK is now 8 years old and we have an 1800 lb off road trailer we tow, and need something a bit more geared toward overlanding/ towing that is still ultimately capable off road, as well as ultra reliable.

Taco is the way to go !! Prices are high …. So who knows if it’s actually cheaper to buy new if you can find one :-/

I've owned 4 Wranglers in my life, a 1983, 89, 99, and a 2010, all bought used. I obviously like them, but view them as toys rather than serious vehicles. I NEED a truck. My wife and I enjoyed driving them. I rarely took the top down, in fact the 99 was a hard top. But during 6 months of the year the doors were off. That is plenty of air and I'm still in the shade with at least some protection for random showers.

The best part was how easy they are to sell, and how close you can come to getting your money back. We sold or traded ours at various times such as when I needed a new roof, or when needed a new truck. I traded the 2010 in for my 2014 F150. I liked the Jeep, but needed a bigger, newer truck than my Tacoma. If I get to the point again where I have some extra cash to buy another toy I might get a 5th one.

In stock configuration, or with minimal modifications such as better tires IMO the Tacoma's and Wranglers are the most capable off road vehicles made. Obviously a smaller 2 door Jeep will fit into places a Tacoma won't. But I've been pretty happy with my 2007 Tacoma

With no car payment currently after paying the JK off earlier in the year, I will have 31K + to put down on a new Off Road TRD next spring.
I'm really on the right side on my house, so I'm actually thinking of a re-fi, since rates are lower than my current one, and using that equity to make up the difference so I can have a new truck and continue to not have ANY payments.

    Thanks for the welcome all!

Yes indeed, the Rubicon sold for it's full price, and within about 29 hours.

Looking forward to a 3rd gen Taco automatic.

BTW, is the new 3rd gen Tacoma automatic an 8 speed?

I'm hoping to stuff 285/75/17s under my new TrD Off Road, just like I had on my Rubicon

Totally doable, just way more work than a Jeep to make even 33s fit.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the reassurance.

So I've read! After reading that thread, as well as talking to Taco guys in my Off Grid Trailers owners group, it seems Im going to also need the extra leaf setup in the rear as well to keep things level.

So, for the 285/75/17s, is the consensus that I can get them on with a 2.5 lift without any major body/frame work (I'm willing to cut some fender liners and such if needed)?
