Well little update I've logged thousands of miles and so far my best tank of fuel landed 408 miles . The best fuel mileage I landed was 20.93 mpg in 3 days of consistent 60mph. My commute to work is roughly 70 miles one way. My truck and me sit at 5,250# . Here in a few days I'll be adding the urd crosspipe . It will be a slight weight reduction around 10lbs and slight power increase. I'm going to be doing a trip from here in Washington state down to crater lake . Will be loaded down with gear and my family. Hopefully can update tune before my next trip. Great work @TermLimits it's great to see your work do excellent magic for my tacoma , you the man.

    *** Updates ***

All Tacoma years have been updated to v2.1 at this time.

Please navigate to your account dashboard and the downloads section on ValleyTune.com to access the new files.

Install them the exact same as you would have your original files.

I do not recommend a LV reset since you are only updating from VR to VR. Changes between tune brands should require a LV reset.

    ------------

Development of Valley Sport is now in full swing. We are close to producing the final product for a select number of trucks to test and provide feedback. Once we reach this point, be on the lookout for an email/message invite to test and provide feedback on the tune.

Testers should be aware that the tune in testing will not reflect the final product unless otherwise stated, you will also be requested to provide more specific feedback as opposed to general driving feel.

    ------------

Those of you who have 4Runners or friends with them and would like a tune tester for this platform, please message me here or through the contact form on the website with the following:

    • Year of 4Runner
    • ECU ID from VFTuner
    • AWD or 4WD model (if not known please message the VIN as well so we can look this up)
4Runners are a unique platform for tuning as they pose different challenges than the 3.5l Tacoma. Along with the fact that transmission shift points, target pressures, shaft speeds, etc are unavailable for tuning at this time; the 4Runner has drivetrain has been in the Toyota lineup for many years with multiple unknown variations between them.

    -------------

Thank you all for the patience and support during the update process, we look forward to providing more tune options as well as improving the performance of many other vehicles!

So I flashed most up to date tune . Did a 40mile test drive tonight and cruising was great there are a few things I'm looking for that I havent noticed yet . Gonna let tune settle some more . Before I flashed tune today I installed a new urd crossover ypipe . Then I flashed tune . Then test drove. I'll post another update later on . Going on a 900mile road trip to Oregon this week so that will be a good test loaded with gear .

    V2.1 .
A few issues for me. Holding 6th and 5th on inclines too long.
On long incline doing 75ish, it tapped out in 5th at 2200 rpms 50% of the accelerator 89% load and won't downshift to 4th.
I have 92 in tanks and kclv looked better, just a few -5 on knock feedback. Not sure what 87 will bring.
Downshifting needs adjustment. The dead pedal takes a joy out of it.

This, although I'm on 87 and have the same issue. The dead pedal is definitely something I would like to see addressed. I feel like I almost need to floor it so it will shift from 5th to 4th on an incline; unfortunately my commute has many inclines so it is extra noticeable for me. The fact that it never wants to go all the way down to 3rd is a definite bonus, though! It's also a bit touchy from a dead stop (lurches), but I am chalking that up to me still getting used to the tip-in.

Also, did anyone else not get the v2.1 in their downloads on the website? I've got nothing...not sure if I did something wrong with my account. I sent a PM off to Jeff, I'm sure he'll set me straight.

The only changes between 2.0.3 and 2.1 is knock value maps and one column on the exhaust valve timings. Should provide zero difference between the old and new tune except better knock value returns.

As far as 5th being held that long, if you are pedal driving (not cruise) and gently lean into the pedal while heading up an incline, you are capable of forcing 5th to hold much longer than necessary. We’ve looked into this for months and it seems to be a “glitch” of sorts with the Tacoma. Despite numerous changes to the shift points, you can still get the vehicle to exhibit this odd shift hold outside of the shift parameters.

As far as dead pedal, I suggest trying the Standard pedal. The more you drive a tuned truck the more it will feel “normal” and be unnoticed. Prioritizing highway gears will always result in feeling as though more pedal is needed to shift into 4th, however it also helps keep the fuel economy up on trips since the truck does not need 4th gear nearly as often.

It seemed before that it would shift into 4th gear sooner at 45mph . Almost like it holds onto 4th longer like 47mph

Shift points have been untouched since v1.8

they scale with pedal percentage and speed

I’m losing out on the specifics of what you guys are saying because there isn’t anything other than a speed and gear mentioned. I can get into 4th gear as early as 28mph under light pedal and hold it out to 78-80 flooring it.

The more you get used to the tune, the less you’ll notice how much pedal you’re applying.

If y’all will PM me log data it would be more insightful as to what the actual complaint is. Log RPM, Speed, Current Gear, and Pedal %.

99.9% certain that shift points are the same as always barring any strange software related error during the export. Each file has received changes to three tables to make 2.1 possible: Knock Correction High and Low and one column of Exhaust Valve Timing.

I know when truck is been warmed up and been driving a awhile yeah 4th gear seems to kick in sooner . I have to log more miles for tune to settle . Again I added the urd crossover ypipe not sure how much it will affect tune .

I looked at the URD when you mentioned it a few weeks ago. The only thing it would do is reduce back pressure similar to a full exhaust setup.

Worst case scenario it’ll bog down the tune and you’ll need some custom edits to the exhaust valve maps to accommodate the higher flow

Just to be clear on the "dead" pedal.
I ran standard last night. The issue is that in 5th (mentioned above), the increase in the accelerator results 0 changes in rpms/speed/gear
I'd rather downshift to 4th, than watch the speed decaying and being passed on the right&left.

Same in 6th, less dramatic, but gives that wtf moment.
Are you able to tailor downshift/upshift speeds to the customer's? I know it is a pain, but being on West side a make a huge difference.

    Otherwise , it drives great.

Really looking forward to the sport tune. Will any public tests be ready by next Wednesday? I am going on a road trip and could put some miles on it if needed.

Also, this may have been asked before, but do we have to pay for each variant of tune? (normal, sport, eco, etc)

Ok yeah I'm sure those edits for higher flow would help alot I'm home today and drove to town and yeah kinda notice truck is boggy . Figured the tune would have to settle but less back pressure yah wouldn't help the tune
