Hindsights a bitch. Any way to talk into a raise from taking on new positions? They're saving themselves money if they're having one person cover 3. Moving for a job always requires looking at a lot. Pay bump is good but, but picking up everything and starting over is a big move. How long do you expect the current situation to last?

I've always been a believer that any company that would hire me might not be a good investment.
The last company I worked for (Dana); when I started their stock was in the $60 range, when I left (11 years later) it was $.25. That's not a misprint, it was a fucking quarter.

They told me right off the bat, no more money involved with exception of overtime possibilities. I started as a machinist then when through all the mechanical maintenance training and qualifications. It hasn't been a bad gig but I've put in for supervisor position 6 times and interviewed every time. The problem lies in no real good candidates to back fill in the machine shop. Once a supervisor they never go back on tools. I ask what am I lacking and they have no good answer. What it boils down to then is a replacement for me and I believe not being able to draw enough vacuum if you get my drift.
I don't know if it might be my inability to sugarcoat things or what. I'm the guy who says, if it looks like shit, smells like shit, then yeah it's probably shit.

So now they want me to try planning (department that's been broken the 17 years I've been there) and machinist and train a new hire machinist duties.

 

Well that sucks. I guess show them how good you can do it and force their hand...or they throw even more responsibility your way. Who knows
