I've been pricing Kevlar, UHMWPE fabric, as well as fiberglass sheets. All I need is a few scrap vehicle doors and we can revive the idea with a video that tests direct lamination to the inside panel in enough layers to reliably stop common rounds.

The steel shortage is real, and the fabricator shortage is real as well. Wouldn't surprise me if quite a few more fabricator shops like this end up closing down within the year.

 

ya i guess the thing that sucks is that dude already cut his truck up and now has a worthless bumper he did do a charge back at least. but where did he get a plate bumper from? i only see hybrid bumpers

agreed its gonna suck to see a lot of small companies dry up and call it quits but sometimes that is life

 

Lead times are scary. Lots of places saying we haven’t seen the worst of it yet and will be an issue until sometime in 2023

 

Funny thing. I just happen to have an old kevlar vest just laying around. It's expired so I wouldn't wear it but it would probably be good for door plating.

 

That's unfortunate to see. I have their bolt-on sliders and tailgate reinforcement plate; couldn't be happier with them.

I'm still amazed at how many people keep insisting there aren't any shortages right now. We've been managing through shortage problems at my work for well over a year on some of the craziest stuff: ANFO hose, detonators, DEF sensors, and man lift booms, to name a few.

 

DEF sensors are designed to fail, which pisses me off since a truck can't run without them anymore. (Assuming you're talking about something else, fully prepared to sound like a looney)
