I have a Warn M8000 (new model) and am in the process of wiring it up to a Carling switch. It was hooked up to a Roadless Gear switch but I decided to add it to my other matching Carling Contura X rockers. I am completely lost on what goes where. The Roadless Gear setup had two switches, one for power to the winch and one for in/out. I am doing the same for the Carling ones. The Roadless Gear switch had 3 wires coming from the winch and 2 wires that go to a ground and a power supply. Then they pigtail back and forth for a few between those two switches.

The new Carling switches are as follows:
    Power switch has 5 pins:
    Upper Light Pos (+)
    Lower Light Neg (-)
    Incoming from Power Source
    Outgoing to relay/accessory/etc
    Lower light neg (-)

    In/Out Rocker has 5 pins:
    Neg for upper light (-)
    Pos for upper light (+)
    Outgoing
    Incoming
    Outgoing

The Roadless Gear switch was wired as you see in the pic below, also just for eye candy the switches in a ABS piece I made to fit under my stereo.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this wired up?

I think you have your power switch labeled incorrectly... second line should be upper lite neg (-), but here goes:

3 wires from selonoid, one hot and two returns.
Hot goes to input on power switch.
Output on power switch goes to input on in/out switch.
Two outputs from in/out switch go back to the selonoid (returns).

For the upper lights, I found an empty slot in my under-dash fuse panel that is conveniently controlled by the lights (but does not dim). Added a tap-a-fuse there to connect to the upper lite pos(+) for each switch.

Then tie the upper lite neg(-) to the lower lite neg(-) of the power switch and the upper lite neg(-) of the in/out switch and ground the three.

You should be ready to rock!

Thanks Tioloco, You're right I mislabeled the Upper light neg.... My 3 wires from the solenoid are the ground, power in and power out. When you say hot goes to input on power switch which wire do you mean? The ground?

    Thanks,

    Mike

If it is a ground, then yes, substitute that for what I called power, but in that instance, it would change how you wire the lower lite on that switch.

The lower lite is controlled from the position of that switch, so if it is a ground line that is being switched, then the terminal that you are labeling lower lite neg. would have to be connected to a 12v+ feed to power the lower lite. I don't think polarity matters for it to work, but I could be wrong.

funny thing is that the 3 wires from the solenoid where working just fine with the roadless gear switch, had a power and ground inside the cab as well but only the three from the solenoid.

Never worked on a winch, but it's only a 12VDC motor and they all work the same way. You're going to have a common wire coming from the winch, a wire for in, and a wire for out (activating the solenoids in the winch).

Here's my take on it: you need to identify which wire is the common (either power or ground) coming from the winch. Use the power on/off switch to break that wire. After the common wire comes out of the power switch, run it over to the common terminal of the in/out switch. The remaining in/out wires get attached to the remaining two momentary contacted terminals on the in/out switch. That should get the winch working. The rest of the terminals are going to be to run the lights inside the switches.

Edit: Unless one of the three wires is a ground for the solenoid coils, the other two are to be powered up from the cab to control in/out, and they expect you to pull your power from inside the cab........hard to know without direct experience or being able to see what you have in front of you.

Thanks all, I will give this a try later this week when I get some time with my truck.

I'm finally getting around to installing mine, but lost the directions. I have a Warn M8000 winch as well and the Roadless Gear in cab winch switch. I still have the arm switch and in/out switch hooked up but I don't know where the 3 wires connect into the solenoids. Wondering if you remember which terminals these 3 wires went to. Sorry to revive an old thread, I tried looking through other forums but with other winches being mentioned and different configurations of the solenoids I am not certain how to wire it up. Thanks for your time. Your truck is awesome by the way.

Warn has adopted a 5 wire setup for winch control that allows redundancy for both positive and negative switching on the contactor.

the old 3 wire was simpler but the 5 wire adds in redundancy of isolating the ground as well as the power when using the remote. Failure is unlikely, so I defeated that to go back to the old 3 wire setup to avoid running 5 wires into the cab

You’ll want to tie the brown wire to ground. White is common +12V tie your isolation switch through that.
The black and green are your winch in and out wires.
