Has anyone else seen or had this happen to the hood of their Tacoma? Is this common for Tacoma’s to have such an issue?

Looks like clear coat degradation. My wing mirror and left front fender flare look similar. I would say it is just age and environment (bug guts, tree sap, UV from sun) is the cause.

Clear coat is cracking/peeling. Pretty common for older trucks that always live outside and not washed/waxed often. Not a Toyota thing, this happens to many different makes & models after getting beat up by the sun for decades. The paint and primer are still intact so the sheet metal is fine, it just looks bad. You can either live with it or pay for a respray. If you paint only the hood panel, it probably will not match the rest of the truck 100% but maybe you are OK with that.

I live in Ga and I take it through car washing machines so that also may not be helpful. I don’t want to spend hundreds getting my entire truck painted just so that the hood will match. So I can either live with it ( doubtful ) or just get it sanded and sprayed and call it a day. Thanks for the information everyone!!

Take it to a High School that promotes auto body repairs and I'm sure they will help you in these matters. These repairs over seen by body repair professionals and they do great work. Call them to find out if they can help you ....with school starting up they might get you in right away.
The other suggestion would be to do it yourself....
Keep us posted on your progress....I'm sure it will be helpful to other with the same issues.

    Go Team TW !

I wash and wax my truck all the time and yes my truck sits outside but my 2004 wrangler original factory paint is still better than Toyota ! My truck is 9 years old and I just spent 1500 bucks having the roof and hood repainted .

    Damn... just the hood?

Looks like someone threw a cup of brake fluid on your rig.

Its not just the hood. Look at 2nd pic and you see the roof has same issue.

OP you said you take it thru car washes. Do you wax or apply anything to protect the paint?
