The dreaded P0705 code

2 weeks ago I got the check engine light on my '06. Shifting was hard and gears weren't engaging entirely.

Codes P0705, P0171

Had a mechanic grease the shifting cable, change the transmission fluid and he said he lubed a gasket (not sure what one). Light went off. Shifting was much better.

A week later, shifting getting stiffer and light came back on today with the same two codes.

I've read a lot on possible issues/fixes on here but those were from years ago. Wondering what the latest thoughts are on what the problem might be and the best fixers.

Would that also be called the neutral safety switch? Any particular recommended brand?

 

As far as I know ,toyota is your only option
